Amazon.com Product Description: Boasting an acoustically balanced wooden enclosure and an enhanced front-firing 3-inch speaker, the Sangean WR-2 tabletop radio offers the sound and features of a living room system in a cabinet that fits conveniently in a bedroom, kitchen, or garage. Any discussion of the WR-2 begins with its white wooden housing, which is rich in both appearance and tone. The cabinet's front surface features the speaker on the left side, a series of intuitively placed control buttons toward the bottom, and a generously sized LCD display in the middle with three brightness levels. More importantly, the cabinet teams with the 7-watt amplifier and the acoustic bass compensation system to add warmth and depth to the audio. Complementing the housing is Sangean's advanced RF/IF electronic circuitry, which picks up distant AM and FM stations and reproduces them with unmatched clarity, making music and even talk programs come alive.
Even though the WR-2 is advertised as an AM/FM radio, it offers much more than a standard digital tuner, including a Radio Data System (RDS) that displays short text messages on applicable FM stations, along with support for the Enhanced Other Network (EON) and its traffic information (available in certain regions). And unlike most tabletop radios, the WR-2 lets listeners adjust the treble and bass levels via the variable volume control. In its default mode, the rotary volume knob displays the volume level from 1 to 60. Tap it once, however, and it turns into a full-range treble control, and two taps creates a full-range bass control. Additional features include a clock with an alarm (radio or buzzer), an auxiliary input jack for connecting such devices as an iPod or MP3 player (both of which sound great through the speaker), a recording output jack, 10 memory presets that help you quickly find your favorite stations, and a full-featured infrared remote control.
A final bonus stems from the power backup function, which plays the radio for six minutes during a power failure (ideal for emergencies) and retains the memory preset and clock values for about an hour. The WR-2 measures roughly 9.5 by 4.5 by 6 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 5.5 pounds.

I bought the white Sangeon and am very impressed with the sound quality and the looks. I am wondering however, if I got a returned product. The box, like another reviewer stated, showed the wood version but inside was the white radio. I love the white, it looks great in the kitchen, but every time you turn the radio on the light flickers for about five minutes. Almost as though it is a flourescent light with a broken ballast. Trying to decide if I should return or not.

The Sangean WR2 radio was a lot heavier than I thought it would be.well made, sounds great. It tells you what song is playing and the artist,so if I like the song,I can write the info down and purchase it.It also has a nifty alarm clock I recommend it highly.--Mario

I just bought the WR-2 in white finish for a bathroom remodel that I am finishing up. I already have one with walnut finish, purchased almost three years ago. The sound quality and features are about as good as you could find on a radio these days. Reception on the AM band is very good - something missing in most radios for the last several decades. Having jacks for both auxiliary input and output is great, enabling mp3 player playback and recording. The remote works as intended, but is small and easily misplaced (I probably won't need it in the bathroom). Separate backlight dimmer settings for ON and OFF is a nice feature. The RDS is useful as well. While the white finish on the new unit will blend nicely with ceramic tile, the walnut finish is more attractive/appropriate for most applications. This radio is fairly heavy, which I think reflects it's quality.
As has been mentioned in other reviews, it's not the most straightforward design for clock setting or other user settings - don't loose the manual. Also, the clock tends to run a little fast. But I bought this as a radio - not a clock or alarm clock, so that's why I give it 5 stars.

I have heard enough about HD radio, so I saved enough gift certificates, and finally bought this "new" "digital" radio.
when I opened the package from amazon.com. I ordered a white one, but the package box is for the walnut color. i thought that i got lucky, because it costs a little extra for the walnut color. but inside, it is still the white radio. When I turned on the radio, all five preset buttons have already been set to my local radio stations. So obviously, amazon sent me a used radio even though it looks new from outside. and i paid the price for a new radio. there is probably an amazon center close by where i live, that is why somehow all those 5 preset radio stations are all in my local area.

If you are thinking about buying a HD radio, don't buy this one. I did my search several times on amazon with different keywords to find what products they have. This one has "digital" in the name, somehow, I thought that it is a HD radio. After all, it costs just as much as a HD radio. It is not. The first thing that I noticed was the usual statics from AM radio stations. I was surprised by that. Then I tried to find a way to tune to those FM sub-stations, I can't find a way to do it. I got to the Sangean's web site, and called them. They told me that this radio is not a HD radio.
so I immediately packed the radio, and sent it back to amazon via UPS.
This unit only has one speaker, even though the FM sound quality is pretty good, but you can buy a pretty good radio with CD player or tape player in one unit for less than $100. And the sound quality might even be better.
And if you really want a good tabletop radio, just add 20 or 30 dollars more, buy yourself a HD radio, from what I read, the sound quality will be far more better. and you can get many more FM stations, too.
Therefore, I rate this radio a 3, it is just too expensive for a plain radio.
