Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Finally, a dependable warm mist humidifier
I have owned this product for several years and it has survived daily use without burning out or clogging. It works very well in large rooms, and the reservoir will last a full 8 hours without needing refills. All warm mist humidifiers are noisy-- this can be a relaxing kind of white noise. My one complaint is that I wish the reservoir top was flat so it could rest on the sink or bathtub while being filled.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Try a different humidifier!
Only got one noisy season (three months) out of a fifty dollar humidifier!
That Stinks! I've owned other models and got years out of them! NEVER AGAIN on this one!!

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Very nice humidifier
I've used cool mist humidifiers in the past. I got tired of the white powder over everything and having to clean or replace the filters. They're not cheap. A warm mist humidifier has none of these problems.

This is designed to humidify a medium sized room. I'm using it to humidify my house and it works great. I check the water daily and fill as needed. I live in Phoenix and in the winter things can get pretty dry.

It seemed quiet to me but it isn't silent. Some condensation drips back from the grill at the top and you'll hear some gurgling when the heating element is on.

I haven't noticed the bottom getting all that hot. I can't see how it can if it has water in it. And it shuts down if it runs out of water. The heating element does boil water, so it gets hot, but it's fully enclosed and immersed in water.

The humidity setting isn't calibrated. I set it at the mid-point for starters, then adjusted down when things got too humid. It took me a couple of days to find the right setting and now seems to maintain a fairly constant level. I have a weather station that reads indoor humidity.

The manual says to clean it every day. We have very hard water here (over 300 ppm) and I waited a week to clean it. It took me about 10 minutes with a PLASTIC scraper to get it looking brand new again. Vinegar would work too and be a lot less work. I'll probably stay with a weekly schedule.

It's important to make sure the tank cap is tight and the gasket is sealing. If you don't you will have water all over the floor. Just turn the tank upright check it right after filling. If the gasket is leaking you'll soon see water dripping within a minute or so. Just loosen and retighten. It's not a problem, but I noticed once I didn't get the gasket sealed properly.

I found the review by spaul247 on Jan 10, 2009 to be very close to my experience.

I'd give it five stars except for a few details.
1. The water tank won't stand upside down and has to be supported while filling it.
2. The manual could be better.
a. The manual refers to a "safety lock" but doesn't show or tell you where it is. It's a ring that you turn so you can remove the top from the base for cleaning.
b. The manual refers to a "reset light" that turns on when the humidifier is out of water. There are two lights on this thing, neither are labeled nor does the manual say which is which. I had it figured out once I let it boil dry. :-)

If Holmes corrected those items I'd readily give this five stars.

All and all a very good product. I've recommended it to friends and family without reservation.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Can't sleep - loud popping noise
Bought this humidifier to replace one we had for 15+ years. After the first use, we knew it was a mistake. It makes a popping noise as soon as it heats up. Sort of like amplified Rice Crispies. Very loud and lasts as long as there's water. You cannot sleep and we are sound sleepers. Holmes said this is normal for a warm mist humidifier. Right. If I still had the box, it would go back. As it is, the retailer won't take it. DO NOT BUY!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - I basically never clean mine & it works great.
I have two of these. One I had for over two years before I cleaned it. It stopped working because of the chunks of hard water deposits on it. I used a flat head screwdriver to break them off (took 10 mins) and it works at good as new now.

I've had alot of (including cool mist) humidifiers and I (obviously) hate cleaning them. This one is BY FAR the least amount of hassle.
