Amazon.com: Adventures of Superman - The Complete Second Season pretty much follows the formula laid out in the first season, building on what made the groundbreaking show so popular. For many fans, season two is the best of the series and it is easy to see why. Each episode has that strong 'mini-serial-crime-movie' feel and was again scripted and shot to appeal to adults as well as younger audiences. This would all change once season three, the first color Superman season, rolled around and the producers would strictly tailor the show for children. The biggest difference viewers will notice in this season is the new Lois Lane. Fans had to say goodbye to the wonderfully tough Phyllis Coates, replaced by the perkier Noel Neill who would play the sassy and smart journalist for seasons to come. For many young girls growing up in the 1950s Noel Neill's Lois Lane, the first liberated woman presented to the TV audience in the children's market, was the ultimate role model. Highlights of season two include 'Panic in the sky' (the episode many feel is the series best--where Superman saves Metropolis from an asteroid that also erases his memory), 'Semi-Private Eye' (where Jimmy Olsen poses as a private eye to stalk the bad guys), and 'The Defeat of Superman' (where Superman loses his powers thanks to a dose of Kryptonite). --Rob Bracco

Rating: - classic tv
I grew up watching these shows. Own every season and now my children watch them too. Good classic tv without all the sex and violence. Perfect.
Rating: - Super nostalgia
If you are a Superman fan these sets are for you. Such memories they bring back from our youth... yes from a much simpler time. The stories are much improved in season 2 over season 1. The plots and of course the special effects are very dated and simple compared to today but eh... you'll like 'em.
Rating: - A Great Gift!!
My husband is a big Superman fan ever since he was a little boy and when I found these original black and white Superman Series, I knew that he would love them! So now he has Series 1 and 2 and I plan on completing his collection with all 6! A big hit!
Rating: - Better than ever
I didn't realize how much I missed these shows. The first season was fantastic, the reason I had to purchase all the seasons !! I am very happy with my purchases and have enjoyed the shows many times since receiving them.
Rating: - Best. Superman. Ever.
`The Adventures of Superman' (TAS) was made under difficult circumstances: almost no time, almost no money, and no CGI. Yet three things make TAS a timeless classic:
1) The recurring cast members were all superb, especially George Reeves as Superman. Reeves played the part with just the right combination of intelligence, righteousness, manliness, and, when necessary, gentleness. A WWII vet and former boxer, Reeves had a physical presence that implied strength and power. Reeves never played Clark Kent as a sissy or klutz, and within the framework of the show this approach worked well. Reeves is to Superman as Errol Flynn is to Robin Hood, as Sean Connery is to 007.
2) Tight, disciplined stories. Every episode has some kind of hook early on, and each one has some element of suspense to keep you involved.
3) Good to excellent directing and cinematography. Every episode is at least competently done, and some work marvelously.
There is a widespread concensus among fans that the 1st two seasons of TAS are the best, due to their being less whimsical than the remaining 4 seasons, and due to their being shot in crisp black and white they resemble film noir, which has the effect of making these shows seem somehow more realistic than the color episodes.
There is considerable debate as to whether the 1st season or the 2nd season is actually the best. In season 1, Lois Lane was played by Phyllis Coates, a good actress who somehow got stuck doing ... Read More
