Rating: - Almost perfect except for quirky USB file handling
I purchased this for my wife's new greenhouse and the flat wall-mountable form factor was perfect. She listens to audio books from the public library so MP3 CD capability was important. The best feature is the USB flash capability so she doesn't have to deal with music CDs laying around where they might get dirty. Converting to MP3s on a 4GB flash drive provides about the equivalent of a 50-CD carousel changer. Sound quality and volume are more than adequate for her purposes.
Minor Annoyances:
1. The CD door button is located where it is easy to activate accidentally when removing the USB flash drive.
2. There is no provision for separately wall mounting the speakers, requiring some improvisation if you don't want them attached to the main unit.
Aggravating Design Feature:
USB directories and files are not assigned album and track numbers by alphanumeric file name order, but in the order that they were written to the flash drive. Thus, if you want to preserve album and track ordering, you must create the directories and write the files in alphanumeric order. Deleting a track file, 01-some.mp3 for example, and then replacing it later, results in it being assigned to the last track in the album, not the first. Since I run Linux, I was able to automate the sequential writing procedure with a simple shell script so I can change the music complement on my hard disk, blank the USB flash, and write it out in order to the flash drive easily. Windows users may need to take some ... Read More
Rating: - My dad loves it!!
This was a birthday gift for my dad, who is in a nursing home. He loves music and sings most of the time. When in his room, unless the tv is on, it is very quiet. He loves his radio/cd player and can now listen to a station that plays music from the 20's through the 70's. He also has his cd's there now to listen to as well. It is mounted on the wall, taking much less of the small space in his room.
Rating: - nice but not compatable with ipod
Got this as gift for my daughter-hoping she can use it with her ipod, but only mp3's can be attached. So, I put it in living room in a shelf, but it needs more head room as the cd slides up to open.didn't do all the homework:D
Rating: - Very good overall
We are very happy with this system so far. The MP3 functionality worked perfectly the first time with both CD's and a flash drive. The only major drawback is that the "random" function doesn't seem to work in MP3 mode, so we always have to listen to the songs in the same order. Other than that, the system looks and sounds great.
