About Recumbent Exercise Bikes Despite the competition from trendy new fitness inventions, exercise bikes continue to be popular options for home exercise. They offer the same aerobic benefits of riding a bicycle at any time, in any weather, without leaving the comfort and safety of home. Exercise bikes don't take up much space, require little or no balance or coordination, and can provide an effective workout for all levels of users, from beginners to serious competitors. While the same could be said for a number of other types of home fitness equipment, the exercise bike is one of the few that allows you to watch television or read a magazine while you work out.
The term recumbent literally means "lying down." Exercising in a recumbent or reclining position allows the user to have full ergonomic back support, without causing strain on the arms, neck and shoulders, all of which can be common effects of using an upright bicycle. For many people, having convenient access to quality exercise equipment is critical to sticking with a long-term exercise program.

I liked the bike well enough for about the first year. I was unable to use it for about three months and when I tried to start riding it again, it had gone "dead." I changed the batteries. Dead. It's frustrating to have a piece of equipment that just stops working after such a short period of time. As the other reviewer points out, it would be nioe to plug in--maybe it would work that way (maybe not).

I love it! End of March 2006. I finally decided I needed to do something about my weight. 6'1" and 276 pounds. I had to be realistic, I knew I wouldn't actually take time to go someplace and work out. I wanted something I could get a good workout with and make use of existing time. I knew that I would be watching tv for a couple hours a day on most days. I picked this bike for its compforable seat and realatively small size. Fits in the living room without looking obnoxious. Its also very quiet so it does not make it difficult to watch tv. or read using the book holder. I put it together in less than an hour.
I started using it on almost the 3rd level of resistance and did 1/2 hour a day. Each week I increased. After the first 6 weeks I had cranked it up to the highest resistance setting and was basing my workout on calories burned. It is now December 18th and I get on the bike everyday except Saturday. I ride until I burn 1500 calories on the highest reistance. equivelent to riding uphill I guess. It generally takes about 72 minutes and works out to an 11 mile ride. (on Thanksgiving night I jumped on for double and banged out 22 miles..lol couldnt stand the idea of not losing weight that week). Since starting I have lost no less than 1 pound per week, but for the first 6 months I averaged 3 pounds per week. I now weigh 202 and have reduced my body fat from 40% to 24%. Thats right over 70 pounds. Only when I got down to about 210 did I start hitting a wall that Im struggling getting through.
If you watch tv at night like most americans then you have the time to use this bike. If you hop on during one of your shows or the news or whatever, you can bang out the calories and change your life.
P.S. I quite smoking during the same timeframe and I am a new person.
This bike is well built and well worth the money. If I had to pick one thing I would like to see different, it would be the electronics. Currently this operates on batteries only and it would be nice if you could plug it into the wall. Its a pretty minor complaint since you only need to change the batteries around every 4 months, and thats under the use in my house. 11 Miles a day by me and my wife throws another 30 minute workout at it every day too.
If your serious....dont hesitste...good luck.
