I seen the very end of the movie when I was about 11 years old waited for it to come back on TV for years but never did, I am so glad you had this

My sister and I saw this show years ago and we always loved the movie. We have talked about it for years. We laugh about the Bear song Richard Boone is always singing. Anything with Indians rules!! Richard Boone is the greatest in this movie. Of course the Indian is hot too!!! When ever I need or want anything I can find it on Amazon.

This movie was one of only a handful I saw in the theater as a kid. The story stuck with me as well as the lesson of giving of one's self to help another. I could never remember the name of the show until I happened upon it when looking over movie descriptions by Feature Films for Families. It was wonderful to finally have the name to the movie so I could buy it and show it to my 3 sons.
It is unfortunate that the filmmaker thought he needed to start the movie out as he did with the near nudity in the first few minutes of the show (Charlotte bathing pond/creek and Sam her brother teasing her by taking the clothes off the tree branch). She is covered by water or her hands/arms for the most part. You can fast forward through that before the kids join you and nothing important to the story will be missed.
It isn't a 1980s-90s or 2000s movie so I would expect some possible problems with the grain and/or shading. It is a before 80s western so I would expect the plot/action to be about as it is. It could have had more balance in the perils going to and returning from the tribe, as well as a better homecoming in the end. Overall, it was a fine show with lots of character issues to talk about for our sons to learn from along the way. It is something for a show to really stick with me for 20-30 years like this has and like the story of Joni Erickson Tada, and the Centennial Series.
