Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Quit Working for No Reason
I have owned three of these humidifiers.

The first one has worked just fine, for years. I run it in my children's room when they are sick. It seems to help them a lot. I have had two more that just stopped working (more on that later).

A few points to remember (if you have a unit that actually works):
#1 You have to use purified water or (as others have mentioned) it will deposit "white powder" in your room or develop scale on the unit (and the scale provides a foothold for the mold to grow). This will happen if you use tap water. Cycling through vinegar and swabbing with a hydrogen peroxide solution will help, but you can't reach the interior of the unit. Use purified water and avoid this whole mess.
#2 It generates a lot of white noise. This is a positive for me. I can't sleep without white noise in the room (white noise also calms my children at night). It does occasionally "gurgle" quietly when water drains into the lower chamber. The "gurgle" has never bothered me.

I bought another V4500 unit for my own bedroom. It worked for about an hour, and then it just stopped. I turned the humidity dial up all the way, but it never came on. I sat the first, identical humidifier right beside it and verified that it would run just fine in the same room (it wasn't "too" humid).

I took the new humidifier back and got another one. This third humidifier ran just fine for a few weeks, and then it just stopped. This is getting ridiculous. It is quite frustrating that the original unit is still running to this day, while (in under a month) two more of the exact same model have simply failed for no reason.

I wouldn't have bought another V4500 if I hadn't liked the first one so much, but I suspect that they are making these units out of cheaper parts these days.

Stay away. Don't waste your time or money on this product.

This thing is not only loud, but after just a few weeks of use, pink mold is everywhere. And I did use the treatment ball that came with the machine. Also, a foul smell (comparable to dirty laundry)would come out of the machine after 3 weeks of nightly use unless you take it apart and clean it. Then you will have fresh air for 2 nights, and the foul smell would return. I am returning this unit.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Learn from my mistake
I don't review many products but this one is such a stinker I thought I should. It leaves a slight dust over anything in the area. It stopped working for no reason. And, call me crazy, but this was the second one I owned. (I was desperate the second time). It is hard to clean and gets mold on it quickly.
On a positive note, Kaz cconsumer relations were great and offered to fix it if I sent it back. It cost me close to 12 dollars to ship it back so I opted not to do so because I am going to just purchase a different one.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Excellent Humidity
Got the V4500 from Target two days back despite some of the negative reviews.

The humidity on this machine is one of the best I have seen, we have a 250 sq ft bedroom and the room temperature dropped to 67F at full blast. We are using this at medium setting and the kids and my husband love it.

We also have the Vicks V5100N which has a relatively lower noise level but the sound on the V4500 is something similar to a waterfall. Contrary to what is written this is not so noisy at all

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Should've checked the reviews before buying
I bought this from Target and was immediately drawn to the filterless feature, which is convenient, but not worth putting up with the rumbling. It's pretty loud and if you're a light sleeper, don't even bother looking at this humidifier, you will not sleep. Although the tank is easy to clean, everything else isn't; there are a lot of little parts that you have to detach in order to clean inside the spout where the air comes out.
