Amazon.com: The Addams Family Director Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black) brings his distinctly cartoonish sensibility to this feature film version of the old Charles Addams comic strip. Anjelica Huston was born to play Morticia Addams, matriarch of the ghoulish Addams clan, while the late Raul Julia is a very agreeable, lusty Gomez. But it's Christina Ricci who arguably steals the show as their stone-faced daughter, Wednesday. As is often the problem with adaptations of comics or television shows, somehow an original story has to be implemented that doesn't clutter things up. But clutter is an issue here as the script gets tangled on a lame plot concerning efforts to steal the Addams' house and fortune. Still, it's fun to see an ideal cast reanimate an old favorite. --Tom Keogh
The Addams Family Values This somewhat more cohesive follow-up to The Addams Family has the same director, Barry Sonnenfeld (Men in Black), but a better story line. Joan Cusack plays a busty gold digger who ingratiates herself into the Addams home and convinces Uncle Fester (Christopher Lloyd) that she wants to marry him. Besides Lloyd, the cast includes Anjelica Huston and Raul Julia, ideal as those Brontëan lovers, Morticia and Gomez. But Christina Ricci again walks away with the best moments as the chilly Wednesday Addams, making life miserable for two camp counselors (Peter MacNicol and Christine Baranski) who want her to fit in with other kids.--Tom Keogh

Rating: - These have aged well!
When these came out over 15 years ago they were very much mainstream events that seemed a bit over-hyped, and perhaps not as funny as you hoped. But either the world has changed, or surely I have, because they now seem witty and utterly hilarious. Perhaps I was looking for a goth-fest in the manner of Tim Burton at the time, but when you accept and engage with these now as black comedy spectacles, you will have the time of your life (at least I have). It's amazing now to see Carol Kane, virtually unrecognizable as Morticia's mother, and Raul Julia in prime form, sadly now deceased. The charismatic performances of Christina Ricci have proved to be everlasting, not flashes in the pan. Anjelica Huston eats up the screen, whenever Christopher Lloyd isn't stealing it away. This is a perfect double-feature. Please enjoy them.
Rating: - very good
I am very satisfied with this transaction and the quality of the dvds is very good.
Rating: - Love them; slightly dissapointed.
I love both movies although Family Values has a slightly better plot than Values. I do like Values better though. Both movies are highly recommended for watching and buying if you like funny "horror" movies. Horror in the sense that it is an atmospheric horror type movie without any actual gore, etc. on the screen. It's all implied and left up to the viewer's imagination. If you've seen the tv show, then expect more of that. Anjelica Houston is perfect as Morticia and Raul Julia is perfect as Gomez. The rest of the cast is excellent also in both movies.
Features:
Both movies are widescreen and on one dvd. Unless there are hidden easter eggs, the only special features on the dvd for both movies are the theatrical trailers for both movies--a total of 4 trailers on the dvd. Both movies have English subtitles only. The audio options are English 5.1 surround and English 2.0 surround. The dvd transfer looks fine. The dvd itself plays fine in my old, cranky player, which is rare since it usually has trouble playing discs because of the copyright protection on the discs I have.
Why I'm disappointed is that I expected more special features on the disc itself. I was surprised when I opened the disc and found both movies on one disc. If the lack of special features does not bother you (and it doesn't bother me a lot), then this set is the one you want since it a reasonable price for both movies. Recommended.
Rating: - Adams Family Double Feature
Great actors expecially the late Raul Julia. You get both movies in one set at an even better price. Once you see these movies you will add them to your favorties.
