Customer Reviews
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - 60's Horror Films
It's what you would expect for the price you pay for these two films. The Beast from 20,000 fathoms is the better of the two but how can you go wrong when you get two movies for the price of one to watch classic 60's b films

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great
If you're like me and on rainy, snowy days you just want the simplicity of an old black and white horror film, you can't beat these. The quality is excellent and you don't see these on TV that often.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Two true sci-fi classics from a bygone era!
When one compiles a list of the great sci-fi films of the fifties, that list must include "Them!" and "Beast from 20,000 Fathoms." Besides being made during the same decade, the two films have so much in common:

1) They were both produced and released by Warner Brothers.
2) Both feature actors in supporting roles as the "old scientist," Edmund Gwenn in "Them" and Cecil Kellaway in "Beast", respectively.
3) Both films have then-state-of-the-art special effects, though "Beast" sports the best with the handiwork of the legendary Ray Harryhausen on his first "solo" project.
4) The "monsters" in both films were the result of atomic bomb testing, a plot device stemmed from the fear fostered in many following the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945.
5) Both films have the necessary female "expert" to "equal things out, Joan Weldon ("Them!") and Paula Raymond ("Beast"). Weldon even gets to do the required scream when saved from the marauding ant hordes.

What's fun about both is that viewers get to see some novice performers who would later make their mark on television or the big screen. "Them!" stars future-Matt-Dillon James Arness and in supporting roles future-Davy-Crockett-and-Daniel Boone Fess Parker as well as Leonard Nimoy would would later don pointed eyes as the legendary Mr. Spock. ""Beast" has future movie star Lee Van Cleef as a marksman that brings down the monster.

Still-going-strong-at-87 character actor William Schallert has a small part in "Them!", also.

The picture and sound is very good for films that are fifty-plus years old.

The extras include a fascinating conversation between Harryhausen and longtime friend Ray Bradbury whose "The Fog" was the inspiration for "Beast."

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Excellent DVD transfers for both of these Sci Fi classics
The DVD transfers are excellent with crisp detail and very few flaws.

You get you're choice here, special effects by Ray Harryhausen in THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS or giant ant creatures built for the sets for THEM. The BEAST picture is more or less a standard release for this era and genre. I would give it 3-stars for genre. THEM, however, is a real jewel for it's day with a fine cast, non-stop suspense and even a few fear-raising scenes to keep you on the edge of your seats. Only the rather primitive ant creature special effects bring you back to earth. While I don't rate THEM with the THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD, it's in the next best B-move grouping of Sci Fi out there.

The price, inclusion of THEM and the quality of the DVD give this offering 4-stars.

Recommended for: 50's Sci Fi fans. Good for the whole family except the youngest of children.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - classic movies
I remembered seeing these classics as a kid and so I bought them to see if my kids would like them and they most certainly did.
