It doesn't coat the mucous membranes like petroleum-based products so it can be used inside the nostrils. As a year-round allergy sufferer, my nose is running and being wiped almost constantly. This leads to irritation, redness and chapping. Once the skin around my nose cracks, I'm prone to getting cold sores in my nostrils (yes, just like the ones you get on your lips).
