Amazon.com: In the third season of Angel, the titular vampire with a soul was forced to stand alone thanks to the (temporary) death of his beloved Buffy and her show's move to a new network, with no crossover between the two allowed. He returns from seeking peace in a demon-haunted monastery to find the L.A. Angel Investigations team fighting supernatural crime in his absence. Fred is still haunted by the nightmare dimension from which they rescued her; Cordelia's visions get ever more painful and debilitating. The schemes of the evil law firm Wolfram and Hart become every more imaginative and dragon lady Lilah Morgan becomes even more of an enemy when lusting after Angel. Unbelievably, Darla, Angel's vampire sire and lover, turns up, pregnant with his child and is tortured by inexplicable motherly feelings as well as a raging thirst for human blood.
For a few episodes things go pretty well--but Angel's enemies, both those he has made in his quest for redemption and those he made when he was unadulterated evil, are still out there. Stephanie Romanov comes into her silky own in this series, making Lilah Morgan all the more seductively evil because she is clear about the choices she has made; the satanic law firm of Wolfram and Hart are this show's most inspired creation. As the season moves to its close, Wesley (Alexis Denisof) has hard choices to make. The devastating climax is compulsive viewing, and this season also contains one of the most impressive single episodes of the entire show: in 'Waiting in the Wings,' writer, director and creator Joss Whedon comes up with a classic ghost story as Angel and his crew go to the ballet and find a performance that is literally timeless. --Roz Kaveney

Rating: - The Miracle Child, Holtz and The Betrayal-Angel's Third Season
After Buffy switch stations, this was a true test for the series as it had to survive on it's own on the WB with out its sister show for a change. Luckily the writers keep Angel a float at it enters in full swing with its 3rd season. Angel comes back home after a summer of grieving over Buffy's death (see Buffy's fifth season finale!) to return to his friends to continue his fight in L.A. But what turns out to be a usual year for Angel Investigations becomes an intense one when Darla returns 8 and half months pregnant with Angel's child! The mystery behind the possibly of vampire pregnancy is a shocking one as the gang, not to mention Wolfram and Hart try figure out what the unborn child might be. But just as the child is about to be born, an old nemesis from Angel and Darla's past returns to seek vengeance. It's an even darker year than the last as terrifying prophecy causes Wesley to even make the ultimate betrayal. Here's Season 3:
Heartthrob-Weak episode!! "After a summer of grieving over the death of the slayer, Angel returns home and stakes a female vampire he knows from his past. When her grief-stricken lover finds, he plans to take revenge." The plot was dull, and the vengeance with James just seems forced in the end.
That Vision Thing-Great episode!! "When Cordelia's visions manifest as painful physical wounds, Angel and the gang investigate which leads to him make a deal with Wolfram and Hart to save her life." You feel so bad for Cordelia in this episode, with ... Read More
Rating: - Excellent standards, great show, great season
The hard reality is that Angel was a better show than Buffy (of course, there would not ever have been an Angel without Buffy).
Angel is much more well crafted than Buffy's (especially Buffy's last two seasons)and the characters and plots are more coeherent.
This third season is very good and reaaaaaaally dark. I thought Connor was an annoying character.
Rating: - Live fast. Die never.
Unlike the show's predecessor, BUFFY, I took a liking to ANGEL right away. However, it wasn't until the end of season two where the show truly came into its own and completely overshadowed BUFFY as being an even better spin-off. For me season three was the absolute best as it took a slightly darker turn, becoming more serious and dramatic. The episodes usually left one hanging, thirsting for more. And certain roles were given more depth to their character -- Wesley Price being the more obvious one. He brilliantly goes from the meak, clumsy brain of the team to becoming a tough, brooding outcast once his friends turn their backs on him after a betrayal brewed by deceitful lies.
Some lose their ways, others find their destiny's (or so they think), and nothing's ever quite as it seems. Season three marks a turning point for the show, leaving the shadow of BUFFY far behind.
