Product Description: Honus Gent a U.S. soldier devoted to his duty and Cresta a white woman who had lived with the Cheyenne for two years are the only two survivors of a slaughter committed by the Cheyennes on a cavalry group. Together they are hoping to stay alive until they reach the cavalry's base camp. As they travel Honus feels a growing affection for Cresta but he is disgusted with her anti-American beliefs as she has more sympathy for Indians than for the U.S. government. They arrive at the cavalry outpost on the eve of an attack on a Cheyenne village where Honus will learn who has been telling him the truth.System Requirements:Run Time: 115 minsFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: WESTERN/MISC. Peter Fonda and Candice Bergen in their heyday, with a storyline to match. Donald Pleasance plays a most delightful demon and the natives all pay with their lives. Very anti government, one understands why Custer lost at the battle of the Little Big Horn...
I am sure the anti race mixers would say I told you so...

one of the first big hollywood movies to have some empathy for native americans. i am from a lakota reservation in south dakota and there is much to nitpick in the film, but why bother? it was a different era.

Having seen this movie when it first came out it was clear to me that time had not dimmed my appreciation for the subject matter. In the roughly 30 years between the viewings I've had the opportunity to visit the actual Sand Creek massacre site, research the historical record, and gain the advantage of maturity to enable objective examination of the events associated with the sad debacle. While the first half of the video is speculation, the massacre depiction is actually fairly accurate. The (actual) 3rd Colorado Volunteers did in fact engage in numerous acts of barbarism, sadism, etc. against women and children (mostly) and the few old warriors left in camp. The majority of the camp's younger men were away on a food hunting expedition. So, while there are elements of stereotyping (e.g. the handsome, muscled chief) and the love interest aspect does tend to lull one into feel-gooded-ness, the overall message is delivered quite effectively. I recommend this to anyone interested in a non-traditional treatment of a sad event in our country's relations with our Native population.

One of the true original classics of its time, if your not familiar with this movie but enjoyed Spielbergs "into the west" series: You are sure to enjoy this. This movie shows a perpective from three different view points: an excellent movie. DVD was in excellent condition. Shpping was resonable and recieved withing 5 days of purchase
