Opening with a Dido theme song and featuring character-driven, sweet-natured melodrama, Roswell was a show with a surprisingly dedicated fandom, who twice won it reprieve from cancellation. One of its main strengths was, of course, the extent to which its premise--alien teenagers trying to sort out their identities while emotionally involved with their human contemporaries--was a free-floating metaphor for race and sexuality issues. Another was the strong ensemble that its cast developed: you believed in the strangeness of the alien trio and the well-intentioned normality of their three human friends. Jason Behr gave the alien Max a quiet authority and Majendra Delfino took the sidekick role of Maria and gave it both intensity and fine comic timing. It was also a show in which you were never sure which adults you could trust--William Sadleir trod a fine line of ambiguity as the local sheriff and Julie Benz was silkily sinister as an FBI agent. Anyone who ever loved this show will want these DVDs--and many others may want to find out what the fuss was about.
Roswell is presented in 1.78:1 anamorphic widescreen. The special features include commentaries by writer Jason Katims, the directors, and various cast members as well as featurettes. The commentaries are unusually insightful on the casting process, and the discs also include the auditions for the part of Tess as well as deleted scenes and a music video. --Roz Kaveney

Rating:  - I'll NEVER get tired of this show!
ever since it first aired on the wb i have been a fan of roswell, something about it is just fascinating. the first few episodes of the series are kind of slow going but its really to get you to understand whats going on. i watched this show grow throughout the 3 seasons it was alive and was sad to see it end. ALL the actors have this amazing chemistry together, you actually start believing the characters and forming this "bond" with them even though theyre just characters on a tv show. the first season deals more with max saving Liz's life and this connection & attraction between them, its really mostly about their love story (outcast alien boy with special powers saves crushs life and they fall in love but it comes with a price) the second season (the one i happen to like the most) deals more with the sci-fi aspect and theres alot going on and you really have to pay attention because there are alot of little things that lead up to a crazy season finale and you dont even pay much attention to those details and once they all come together in the season finale you are like "OMG I CANT BELIEVE I DIDNT SEE THAT!" there is also a very hugggeeee drift between max & liz and basically the aliens & humans in general all because of a very sad & important moment in the show. you start realizing that not everyone is who you thought they were...someone has a secret that has a HUGE impact on all their lives. third season deals with a bit of both, love & sci-fi and although its not my favorite ... Rating:  - So Much Promise and So much left Undone
This series is very entertaining and is very enjoyable. It was cast very well and if everyone would have behaved in a professional manner and honored the terms of their contracts (and not tried to get out of them!) I feel it would have went for at least 5 seasons and been a lot more full-bodied and well-fleshed-out. I recall reading a TV Guide interview with the actress who is now on that medical drama that she admitted she had not really grasped what whe was getting herself into with signing a contract and didn't want to continue being on a science-fiction show. Maybe the direction the show started-off in at the beginning and thru the first season would have continued (had that not occurred) but it seems like they did take a turn towards really rushing the information that was more sci-fi oriented for the second and third seasons. Had they had 5 it could have maintained the steady momentum of the relationship development with a stream of science fiction constantly running thru it and not a deluge. Regardless, this is a really good series with attractive cast and emotionally involving storylines. Good for teens and those who remember being teens.

when i saw this show on the tv , i don't liked it all ready. last 2months ago i read people rated 4 and haft stars at amazon. and i bougth 3seasons . OMG , very borring show ever after 2weeks later i don't finish them all and try to watched , but not finish them all.
the problem is they don't show much aliens . and very very teen dramma-gramma no story...skip them and save your money( i rather watched smallville. it's pretty good show not much borring like roswell - peace )

bought this for the teenagers around here and they loved it. spent all their spare time for a week or two having Roswell screenings.
Rating: - Great show, but missing disks 3 and 4 of Season 1
I was very excited to get my shows for so cheap, but I have 2 disk #1 and 2 disk #2. So basically I don't have disks 3 and 4 for Season 1, the other seasons are fine. I don't want to go through the hassle of sending them out so I'll probably just watch them online or elsewhere. The show is great though, just really sad that not all the right disks made it to me.
