Rating: - Worth the price
Steve Ricks gives great advice to well groomed travelers. meaning, if you like cruise ships and whirl wind group tours, and grand hyatt hotels this may seem a little too adventorous. But if you consider a visit abroad is more than a history lesson, it is best to stay local, on your own at your own pace, affordable , steve gives excellent advice on where to stay, how to get around (mostly rail) and things you need to see to realy experience the land. If you plan on visting several of eurpoes countries, it's worth buying the complete set. And any you don't need, sell on ebay.If you haven't watch steve, look on PBS stations or rent one from the libray prior to this investment. But it is WELL WORTH getting the complete set
Rating: - Excellent DVD by Rick Steves on Europe (70 shows)
We found Rick Steves' DVD on Europe (70 shows) to be a superb production. We've travelled quite a bit in Europe and are planning other trips yet find there's still more to learn and enjoy with his programs. He manages to give so much interesting information - on the history, art, music, food, and best places to stay - within a 30 minute show. And the photography and overall production quality is fantastic! Three cheers for Rick Steves and his team and for PBS for for introducing us to to him. The great thing about owning this DVD is that we can "travel" and re-enjoy so many wonderful places at the time of our choosing and without any jet lag! We highly recommend it for anyone who enjoys travelling and learning.
Rating: - A must for travelers
My family always loved the Rick Steves shows on PBS, but were always left wanting more. I ordered this collection, and we love it. We watch it almost every evening. Packed full of beautiful scenery, great travel tips, and little known towns and places to stay in Europe. It helps your travel dreams come alive. Also included are some bonus dvds with extra travel tips and behind the scenes. I always thought a trip to Europe was a someday thing that I would get to after the kids were grown, now after watching this, I am hoping to get there within the next 5 years. Rick Steves covers it all, from the must sees, like Venice or the Louvre, to those out of the way the average American traveler will miss without his tips. A great great collection!
Rating: - Before you leave for that trip....
You owe it to yourself to purchase Rick Steve's collection of his wonderful series which ran for seven years on PBS. Steves not only takes you to the most popular destinations, but shares those locales that are off the beaten path but so rewarding; for example, Cinque Terre, Italy's "hidden" riviera as well as some popular Eastern European cities like Prague, Krakow, Budapest, Solvenia, Croatia, and even grim Bulgaria--one of former Communist stalwarts behind the Iron Curtain.
What makes Steves program valuable is not just the stunning visuals of these European capitals (best seen on a plasma screen), but the helpful travel tips he inserts in virtually every program. Dealing with foreign currency, what not to say or do in a bed & breakfast, how to really mix with the locals, how to pack intelligently, and even eat--and eat well I might add--on a budget are just a few of the tips Steves shares with his audience. Also there is plenty of information for younger travellers or economically-minded college students who may opt for the hostel instead of a hotel. Even tips for women travelling alone. Good advice, all around and virtually nothing is overlooked.
These shows are nicely presented in a box set divided by region to make it easy to find the disc you want; moreover, the remastering and the production values for these programs are very good. Like any good businessman would, a "bonus disc" includes a bit of self-promotion for "Rick Steves' Tours" that now caters ... Read More
Rating: - The Ultimate Rick Steves' Collection!
Has there ever been another travel guide more amiable, more informative, more eclectic and just plain likeable than Rick Steves? This somewhat nerdish but pleasant looking fellow will immediately win the viewer over with his charm, humor and smoothing, layback manner. However what will keep you watching program after program is his consummate knowledge of the sites and people he visits.
While each journey is only 30 minutes in length Rick has a unique talent of synthesizing the many facets that make up a people and place. He leaves no stone unturned in his analysis; historical background, spiritual heritage, cultural underpinnings and political legacy are all equally touched upon to give the audience a fuller understanding of the rural and urban landscape.
However not not an individual to dwell too much on the past, he provides a delightful tour of the markets, music, restaurants and nightlife. The kind of information would really want to know if you're out for a good time.
The production values are also wonderful offering fanstastic visuals that are worth watching even if there where no commentary. Traveling with Rick Steves' is the next best thing to being there.
Why not have it all and get this ultimate collection? You know you want it so why put it off any longer? Europe and Rick are waiting to provide the ultimate vacation from the comfort of your own home!
