Editorial Review:
Amazon.com: For this Nancy Meyers-directed romantic comedy, Hans Zimmer serves up a breezy score quite different from the more heavy-duty works he's become known for. This may have something to do with the film's tone, of course, but also with the fact that Zimmer has sole credit on only two cues, having co-written the others with members of his extensive stable of helpers, including guitarist Heitor Pereira and even pop artist Imogen Heap (who also contributes wordless vocals in addition to getting writing credits on three tracks). In the film, Jack Black's character is a composer who namedrops Ennio Morricone; Zimmer steps up to the challenge with the opening track, 'Maestro' (one of his solo compositions), which evidently seeks to emulate the romantic sweep of some of Morricone's scores and nearly succeeds. (This may sound like a criticism but getting near Morricone level is nothing to sneeze at.) A little later 'Verso e Prosa,' a collaboration between Pereira and Herb Alpert--who contributes his immediately identifiable trumpet--also stands out. If the rest of the CD had shown as much spirited zest as these two tracks, the album could have become a prized addition to any soundtrack lover's library; alas, the other cues are too devoid of personality to make a lasting impression. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Rating: - Wonderful But Missing Movie Songs
I loved this movie so much and equally love this CD it's absolutely beautiful. I love buying soundtracks after a great movie but I am so frustrated when they don't include all the movies songs after all isn't that why we purchase these Cd's so we can be transported back to the movie. I think they should have to note on the outside of the CD case "Does Not Contain All Music From Movie" as it happens so often and this one was no exception as several were missing here to :o(
Rating: - Great Movie Soundtrack
This is a cute romantic comedy. Fairly predictable overall, but some great scenes and the cast is fun. The soundtrack is wonderful- varied and uplifting. Hans Zimmer is one of my favorites and he doesn't disappoint in this one. Very sophisticated sound- even my 7 year old loves "Cry".
Rating: - It's got gumption!
"The Holiday" is an uplifting movie, and the film score is equally as delightful. This is one of those feel-good CDs that is guaranteed to put the listener in a happy mood, no matter what. I'm particularly fond of the main theme, "Maestro;" "Dream Kitchen," which reminds me of some music from the soundtrack to "The Thomas Crown Affair" (the 1999 version); "Definitely Unexpected," a sexy and flirty little number; "Busy Guy," which is basically a reprise of "Definitely Unexpected;" "For Nancy," a jazzy and cute tune; "Kiss Goodbye," which is slightly bittersweet at first but then extremely fiery and passionate; "Three Musketeers," a mellow and sentimental melody; "Gumption," which is invigorating and spirited (and also incorporates the melody that Jack Black's character wrote for Arthur in the film); and "Cry," the traditional happy ending song. What a great soundtrack!

Rating: - Warning.......Only contains Hans Zimmer instrumental songs
While Hans Zimmer has composed some beautiful music on this CD..........this CD does not contain any songs (such as the Arethra closer) that many of you may mistakenly purchase this CD hoping to obtain.
Not on this CD you won't.
