Fans of Calendar Girls and the many productions of French and Saunders (creators of Absolutely Fabulous) will enjoy Clatterford: The Complete Season One. Centered on the daily and social calendars of the village women, Clatterford features unique characters, comical by observation with the wonderful human traits we can all relate to. The women make jam and have meetings, but it's what goes on outside of those meetings where we really get to know the women. Leading a cast of familiar faces, including Jennifer Saunders and Joanna Lumley, is Dawn French, who portrays a mentally challenged woman, Rosie. The excellent writing in this series is apparent in an episode featuring Rosie and Margaret, her dueling personalities, fighting over the religious importance of a potato supposedly with the face of Jesus. Rosie is about as close as we get to the zaniness of Ab Fab, since the humor here is more subtle overall and weaved throughout, posing as normalcy. Also subtle are the dramatic moments and serious undertones, which elevate this series above being just another 'Britcom.'--Rachel Moss

Take a half dozen or so of Britain's funniest ladies and the comic writing genius French and Saunders and voila you have Clatterford. This has comedy that is right in your face and some a little bit more subtle. You will laugh until you cry....

Set in a small country community in England and has some strange inhabitants. Well worth a look if you like British comedy.

I did not know what to expect after reading the various reviews. You almost expect the popular names of the show, Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French, etc.. to take front stage. But that is not the case.
Each episode is wonderfully written with quick litle laughs thrown in that had me cracking up! Whether it was from the irritated Vicar or Dawn French as the loveable mental challenged Rosie passing out cheese at a funeral or having a balloon come out her bottom, it is such a wonderful 2-DVD set of the first 6 episdoes. I actually came back to see if there was season 2! I cannot wait!!!!

I really didn't expect to love this show. I don't like Abfab but I liked Vicar of Dibley so I bought this. It is really funny! I can't wait for season 2.

This sounded SO good in the write-up. Then we watched the show, then the next episode, and so on. So many opportunities for some wild comedy, or some genuine character development...all missed! Ladies in a doctor's office, in a social group, and on and on; it should have fizzed, but all we got was a disjointed fizzle. Dawn French is completely wasted. What a bummer.Clatterford - Season 1
