There is no way this is for beginners. The tutorial isn't even a joke, it is a lie. It gives hints not instructions. Graphics are adequate but not impressive. There are better programs. Don't waste your money on this one.

This is a great Chess program, I play it almost every day. It isn't as good as some others I have but a lot of fun and I win some times.

This chess software will help you every move on a practice game. It will also keep stats if you have improved in skill levels when you play. This is a fun game to play with.

* Precise scoring system rates your playing skills
-The game has several "levels" but boosts the ratings. The top opponent is about 1300, but you are awarded a 2600 rating for beating it.
* Choose your opponents & skill levels
-You click through a series of names such as "Einstein" or "Average Joe" and then play against it.
* 15 3D Themed chess sets and boards
-The chess sets are in 3D. Graphics are of low-quality.
* Multiple game and clock Modes
-You can choose whether to have hints provided, what type of opening the opponent plays. Takebacks are allowed in all rated games, but lose 50 points. You predetermine the amount of time for a round.
* Rich, detailed graphics
-The graphics are of low-quality without details such as one would find on the 3D Fritz or Chessmaster sets.
* Brain Games Chess is designed to challenge you and help improve your skills using enhanced tutorials. Play at any level against the program or a friend. Use the tutorial to improve your game and increase your skills. It's great exercise for your mind! Enhanced tutorials
-Enhanced tutorials are composed of lights that colour the square underneath a piece. If that piece is being attacked by one of your pieces then it gets a light. If one of your pieces is being attacked, then it also gets a light. I believe there are about 4 types of such configurations on these tutorials. There is an absence of written/spoken tutorials such as found on Chessmaster 7000 and above.
*Recommendation? NO.
-Alternative: Chessmaster 7000,8000,9000,10th, or The Chessmaster Challenge, or Chessmaster-Art of Learning, for its different personalities and tutorials/drills that will allow your beginning/intermediate chess student to rise to club level.
