Known as a pristine coffeemaker, Chemex employs all of the chemically correct methods for brewing. The Chemex has no moving parts and will work forever, unless it is dropped or in some other way demolished. Chemex filters are made of the highest quality filter paper. The Chemex Glass coffee maker arrived with a hairline crack. Things like that do happen, but what has been more frustrating is dealing with the company I ordered it from. I have tried contacting them three times now and hae received no response. Amazon is great and will help me deal with the company to make a return. But it would have been much better to just order the coffee maker directly from Chemex.

Coffee is so smooth. Even if made strong it will still be smooth. It takes time to get used to having to work a little to make your coffee instead of sitting back and letting coffee maker do work. Just put water in tea kettle....gets hot quick. I use melitta coffee filters. They are strong enough to hold up with the Chemex. Cheaper filters will not. Put filter and coffee in Chemex while waiting on water. Then pour slowly to make the best cup of coffee you could ever brew. You will know its worth it once you taste it. I also bought the lid to put on the pot and I sit it on cooktop burner that is turned off but still hot from boiling the water. This will keep it hot for a while. Don't fix more than what you will drink within an hour.

While the coffee maker is interesting and well made, which is why I purchased it, it's too much effort for an everyday coffee maker. In addition, the coffee tends to cool rapidly.
Pro's are the coffee is smooth similar to that produced by a vacuum pot.
If you're into it and the fragile glass construction doesn't put you off it's a great to play with.

The Chemex makes wonderful coffee. The only downside is the time it requires. Instead of an electric coffeemaker doing all the work, the user has to do this. My husband doesn't have the patience, so he won't use it. It takes some time for the water to pass through the coffee and the filter and you can't pour it all at once. If you have the time, it makes wonderful coffee. I pour the finished coffee into a thermal carafe, to keep it hot all day.

When our old coffee maker bit the dust I bought this after reading tons of glowing reports on [...]. I was surprised when it got the most and the highest reviews of ALL the coffee makers listed. I figured I'd give it a try since it wasn't too expensive. The way I've found to make a great hot pot of coffee is to pour hot water into the carafe to get it warm while the water is boiling. Then when the whistle blows on my teakettle I pour out the water and get the filter ready and start brewing. The coffee really is delicious and not bitter. We can't figure out what makes it so good but we love it. We are never going back to automatic drip again!
