Amazon.com:
Once intended as a feature for Johnny Depp, the long-germinating feature film adaptation of Marvel Comics' cult title Ghost Rider stars Nicolas Cage as motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, who transforms into a skull-faced angel of vengeance to battle the forces of evil. Though perhaps a bit too mature for the role, Cage brings a degree of humor to the outrageous proceedings; he's well matched by the Easy Rider himself Peter Fonda, amusingly cast as Mephistopheles, the demon with whom Blaze strikes a bargain to save his father, and in turn, causes his transformation into Ghost Rider. Wes Bentley is also fine as Blackheart, the rebellious offspring of Mephistopheles, and Blazes' chief opponent in the film. They're joined by a solid supporting cast which includes Donal Logue, Eva Mendes, and Sam Elliott, but their participation and a relentless barrage of CGI effects can't hide the fact that the story itself, though largely faithful to its comic origins, is rife with clichéd characterizations and glum B-movie dialogue. Fans of the venerable title may cry foul over this adaptation (as they did over helmer Mark Steven Johnson's previous comic-to-movie feature, Daredevil), but less stringent viewers may enjoy the fiery visuals and Cage's typically quirky performance. --Paul Gaita

Ghost Rider
Ghost Rider is probably one of the most horrible films that my eyes have ever had the dissatisfaction of viewing. Literally every thing went wrong in this movie. The CG is horrible. The writing is horrible. The action is nonexistent. The fact that you are even looking up this DVD is shameful.

The story...I don't even want to have to explain this crap because it was so bad. Johnny Blaze and his father Barton Blaze are carnival workers who amaze audiences with their motorcycles stunts. Johnny is in love with a woman named Roxanne and they want to run away together. Johnny soon realizes his father has Cancer and is very upset by it. So he goes to the carnival to play with his bikes. Suddenly the Devil shows up and says that he'll cure Barton's Cancer if Johnny will sign his soul over. Johnny accepts and Barton's cancer goes away. Then, the Devil turns out to be a complete a-hole and kills his father anyway. The Devil tells him to forget about his friends, family, and loved ones. So he does and rides off.

Johnny, played by Nicolas Cage, goes on to live a fairly normal life. Oddly enough he has friends and still remembers everything about the girl he once loved. Obviously the Devil had no idea what he was doing. The Devil then tells Johnny that he's going to have to kill Blackheart and The Hidden Ones. Yes, that is what they are called.

The beginning segment that shows his carnival days with his dad is horrible. The entire part is full of bad acting, ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Long time fan of Ghost Rider, Absolutely hated the movie.
First of all I wanted to say that Ghost Rider has always been my favorite Marvel Character. I used to carry a ghost rider trading card in my wallet.

That said, i thought this movie was absolutly horrendous. I find it hard to watch nicholas cage movies any more, with Raising Arizona being an exception. Here are just a few reasons why this movie is so terrible:

1. The character developement was next to non existent.
2. The special effects were cheesy. The Bike looked cool, but thats about it.
3. The dialogue was laughable.
4. The fighting scenes, if you can call them that were short, and despite them being so quick, they were very dull.
5. The villians were lame, looked stupid, had some of the worst expressions on their faces, 30 days of night bad, and died like chumps.
6. The acting was really bad. I don't think the lame dialogue helped the acting, nor the stiff delivery help the dialogue.

I wish I could say something good about this movie. I guess Eva Mendez is nice to look at. One of my least favorite movies of all time.

This is a great action movie. I would not show it to children under 10 but my older nephew and I really enjoyed it!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - entertaining but not outstanding
If, like me, you're unfamiliar with the comic, here's the story: Johnny Blaze, motorcycle daredevil, sells his soul to the devil (Peter Fonda) in exchange for curing his father's cancer. His father's cured, all right, but he dies anyway, and Johnny Blaze is stuck with owing the devil.

Knowing the devil could return at any time, he leaves his girlfriend and becomes a recluse, emerging only to do more and more dangerous stunts, taunting the devil who's keeping him alive.

Then his old girlfriend reenters his life, and at the same time, the devil returns to collect. Johnny's mission is to retrieve a scroll, and to do that, he can become the Ghost Rider, who also ends up having some crime-fighting abilities.

Along the way, he meets a mentor (Sam Elliot), who explains all the Ghost Rider lore.

It was a nice way to spend a couple hours--not a great movie, but not terrible, either. I'd probably have found the flaming skull less silly if I'd been a fan of the comics, but it's just one of those things you have to accept or they'll spoil the movie.

The story made sense, and was acted believably. Nicholas Cage fits as the resigned loner, though the haircut (bad wig?) made me cringe every time I saw it. And thank goodness it was a DVD and we watched it at home, because I think my incredulous burst of laughter when he appeared shirtless onscreen at the fake-looking abs (seriously, they looked like foam strips glued to his stomach) would have irritated ... Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Extended Cut cannot compensate for lack of decent villain
A comic book movie is only as good as its villain. This movie has TWO of them and still doesn't manage to create any sense of drama or danger. The extended cut does nothing to remedy this.

My hope in purchasing the extended cut was that footage featuring more character development would add to quality of the film a la the Daredevil: Director's Cut, unfortunately this was not the case.

NO scenes of Blackheart and his minions posing any type of threat to the Earth or anyone else outside of a bar full of bikers.

NO scenes indicating why we should care about Johnny's "Bearded Buddy" when he gets killed.

And most unfortunately, NO digital replacement of Eva Mendes by ANYONE ELSE IN THE UNIVERSE! Seriously, a monkey in a wig would have put in a better performance than she did, my goodness!

The bottom line is that you don't care about anyone in the movie besides Johnny Blaze and even then it's just the basic empathy you have for any stranger who has lost a loved one.

If you didn't like the first time, this version isn't going to change your mind.
