Product Description:
The story centers on a rag-tag team of Reno cops that are called in to save the day after a terrorist attack disrupts a national police convention in Miami Beach during spring break. For Reno 911 fans who believe that Comedy Central's improv-driven mock-reality series could benefit from more unbleeped profanity, uncensored sex scenes, and nudity, the feature-length R-rated Miami will be just the ticket. Perhaps less a movie than it is a Very Special Episode, Miami transplants short-shorts-bedecked Lt. Dangle (Thomas Lennon) and company to Miami for the American Police Convention ('They invited everybody'). No sooner can you say 'bio-terrorism' than the hotel is quarantined, and Wahoe County's hapless misfits, shut out when their credentials can't be found, must step in and save the city from 'complete chaos.' Complete chaos ensues. As with the series, Miami unfolds in a series of hit and miss bits. The funniest are those that hew closest to the Cops template, such as an early '814' call that does not, as the officers believe, decode as armed intruder, but actually involves a loose chicken, and an encounter with a taunting good ol' boy who, when faced with an alligator in a swimming pool, boldly goes where officers Jones (Cedric Yarbrough) and Garcia (Carlos Alazraqui) fear to tread.

Happily, as was not the case with Borat, no innocent or unsuspecting citizens were emotionally harmed during the making of this movie. All of the jokes and humiliations are at the Reno squad's expense. Miami benefits from some subtle (and not so subtle) stunt casting, including Patton Oswalt (The King of Queens) in a small but pivotal role as the deputy assistant mayor, and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's hilarious, albeit short-lived cameo as a gung-ho bomb squad leader. It is a tribute to the crack ensemble that Reno's intimately etched characters do not need much of an introduction, and can be appreciated by those who have not seen the show. But longtime viewers are issued this warning that Miami crosses with even more impunity the thin blue line of good taste. A Rear Window homage in which we view each officer indulging in some alone time in their fleabag motel rooms may not be as bad as Borat's wrestling match, but really, there ought to be a law! --Donald Liebenson

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - This movie is just right for the small screen
I missed this at the movies, I probably would have been disappointed seeing it on the big screen.
The movie is just like the show, except with a bigger budget and different location. So, just like the show, some scenes are hits and some scenes are flops... but either way you don't have to wait long for the next scene.

The movie came along at a time when the show was beginning to get stale. The different location freshens things up a bit, but as said previously this works better on the small screen (like an extended TV episode), it doesn't have the punch for the big screen.

The special features are good, including several commentaries (most in character).

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - A well done move to the big screen
Comedy Central's Cops-spoofing improv fest that is Reno 911 makes the move to the big screen with mostly good, and uncensored, results. Lt. Dangle (Thomas Lennon) and his crew of inept police officers make a trip to sunny Miami to participate in a big get together for law enforcement all over the country, only to find themselves on the outside looking in. After a bio-terrorism scare, Dangle and co. find themselves as the only cops around, and end up patroling the streets of Miami. As you can already guess, or know from watching the series, Miami is in some serious trouble as it is. While the film seems to be more of a mish-mash combination of skits, it works as what it is, with some off the wall hilarity that ensues among the chaos. Most memorable is definitely the multi-hotel room look at all the officers getting some "alone" time, which is just too funny for words. With cameos from show regulars Nick Swardson, Paul Reubens, and Paul Rudd; along with a very funny and short cameo from Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Reno 911: Miami ends up being a pretty funny move to the big screen that while not perfect, succeeds as what it is.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Sophomoric Humor: Not that there's Anything Wrong With That
This is a movie to watch with your friends while drinking copious amounts of some fermented beverage. To view this totally sober, as I did, is to miss out on what must be some really funny bits. I did enjoy the whale beaching scene, and found The Rock's bit-part to be pretty funny, but overall this kind of movie is just right for high-school/college kids looking for some cheap laughs to go along with their Piels.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Lame lame lame
In the (infamous?) tradition of Police Academy, a group of keystone kops are put into a position of securing the safety of a city. In this case, it's the police department of Reno, NV in Miami, FL. The police officers mistakenly believe they're invited to a convention, only to find themselves as the only police force in the city. Sound familiar?

Certainly, the first POLICE ACADEMY was funny. However, it didn't deserve a sequel (or about the 50 sequels it got). Nor did it deserve a "vicarious" sequel in the form of RENO 911 about 25yrs after the fact. The idea is stale and the present movie does nothing to make it fresh.

There's maybe 7 minutes worth of funny material in this film. The cameo by The Rock was cute, and for me that was the funniest part of the whole movie (it lasts all of 3 minutes or so). If I pick up a comedy, particularly a slapstick comedy, I want more than 7 minutes of laughter.

One of the biggest problems of the movie is its dearth of hot babes. Having homely women trying to pass themselves off as beautiful women gets boring after about the first 5 minutes. The 1 photogenic babe in the whole film is a topless extra who appears in the topless beach scene. She's hot, but she can't make up the lost ground from the rest of the female cast.

In the end, the cast members of this film seem to think they're way more funny than what they are. The best comedies I've ever seen have had actors who can make being funny look ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Just like the show... only with a general storyline.
I'm a big fan of the show Reno 911 so when the movie Reno 911-Miami was released, I had to watch it. If the movie had any of the same qualities as the show, I was sure it was going to be really good. Turns out, although there quite a few funny moments, the movie falls just a bit short.

So what's this movie about? Your favorite group of cops is invited to a convention in Miami! Upon arriving there, however, they learn that they're not allowed in. So while the rest of the cops are having fun inside the convention, the Reno cops are left to mope around a hotel. The next day, the Reno cops learn that some sort of virus is floating around inside the convention center where all of Miami's cops are being quarantined. The Reno cops must then take control of Miami and ultimately find a way to "fix" the virus problem.

Let's talk about the positives first. Of course, you have your usual cast of characters. From the supposed lesbian cop, to the crazy Trudy, to Mr. Short-shorts, no Reno 911 character is left out. We even get a surprise visit from Danny DeVito! Each character brings something different to the movie and you can count on each of them to make you laugh in their own twisted way.

In terms of the actual movie, you can expect the same old laughs that you would get from the show. You know, the kind of comedy that you could only describe as stupidly funny. As far as the storyline (yes, as opposed to the show, there's an actual storyline in this movie), it's nothing ... Read More
