Description:
Sketch comedy show revolves around the Upright Citizens Brigade, an underground organization 'with no government ties and unlimited resources' dedicated to creating and monitoring chaos from their secure underground base. The show’s sketches depict chaotic or bizarre events in the world, events which are often directly engineered by the UCB. Another defining feature of the show is a series of real-world pranks, which tied in with the show's theme. Usually run at the end of each episode, these hidden-camera pranks feature the cast (as either the central UCB characters or other characters from that day's episode) interacting with real strangers.

Rating: - the pinacle of absurdist comedy
I can't think of a more ridiculous and funny show. In my opinion one of the best sketch comedy shows ever. Not having a laugh track or a studio audience helps too.

I saw a few of the UCB's stuff on youtube and Comedy Central years back, and I thought it was pretty stupid. I decided to rent the first season to give it a try again. It was better than my first opinion, but it wasn't anything fantastic. It had some wickedly funny moments (the guy who "appears" in Star Wars and Out of Africa is really quite funny, along with the wedding rehearsal sketch), but it has some really tepid stuff, like the linking material with the four members in a spaceship controlling the universe. The opening of the show is also quite tedious and borderline stupid. The Saigon Suicide Show, while a great title for an episode, seems like it goes on forever, and is not particularly funny. There's a sketch where an architecture firm is in a forest (which is funny, and reminscent of a Python sketch where Terry Jones has to walk to a flying lesson through a forest), but the UCB version constantly mentions that they're in a forest, as opposed to Python, who never mention it and just let it happen (which makes it funnier and more surreal). The series has a tinge of smugness to it, a symptom of 90's comedy. One thing about this series which is surprisingly good is that it doesn't have a lot of cuts in it. Usually sketch shows like this are filled with unnecessary cuts and pointless graphics, and this season, at least, has none of that. Rating: - Don't pass this up
This is the best sketch comedy ever. The UCB is a group of improv people who got a break on Comedy Central. Their skits are the funniest around. My last review was not published because I named my favorite skits, guess I won't do that now, but that should give you an idea of where the UCB take their sketches. You will laugh over and over as you watch this. Like the title says, do not pass this up.

UCB is the greatest thing ever brought to the world of comedy. This first season is fantastic and it just gets better. anyone who has not seen this should definately check it out. I have been watching it since i recorded it on vhs in the late 90's and it never gets old. I was so happy when I found they made the first 2 seasons on dvd. I hope to everything that is still holy in this world that they produce the final season on dvd, and soon. I am tired of watching it on .avi files and vhs tapes, it just isn't the same. BUY THIS AND BUY THE SECOND SEASON. You won't regret it...
