Yoga Inside Out - The Healing Way focuses on yoga body mechanics and optimal alignment as the keys to unlocking the healing power of yoga. The program consists of a lesson on yoga body mechanics and an 80-minute beginner-intermediate therapeutic practice.





Paula Tursi, Founder and Director of NYC-based Reflections Yoga, built this healing program with a special emphasis on discovering therapeutic benefits of yoga for improving the condition of the lower back, hips, and knees. The body mechanics lesson explores the anatomy of the pelvis and points out the causes of tension, tightness, and aches coming from incorrect carriage and imbalanced pelvic posture.







Tight hips, gluteal muscle gripping and misaligment of the spine are significant sources of lower back and knee pain. Opening the hips can create stability in the knee joints and help to properly align the lower back.







Paula teaches awareness of the four separate bones that form the pelvis, and prompts understanding of the differences between postures where two halves of the pelvis move as one unit or move independently. She teaches how to stabilize the spine while increasing the opening and mobility of the hips through maximizing the effectiveness of inner and outer hip rotation exercises.







Paula teaches simple techniques that transform familiar yoga exercises into deep therapeutic experience through additional awareness of the anatomy of movement.







The 80-minute practice features Paula's instructional method of building a developmental progression of movements to awaken the body's innate dynamics, expanding the range and depth of motion where it may have been left underdeveloped, and prompting one to move not just from the muscles and joints but also through drawing support from the inner body, organs, and breath.

This dvd is great for all levels because it gives at least 3 variations for each posture. I love dvds like this because it allows people to see that anyone can practice yoga, not just the ultra flexable people. TAMARA'S YOGA FUSION



Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - A must have yoga DVD
Paula is an experienced and knowledgeable teacher. Great instructions and I am motivated to practice as often as I can using this DVD. A great gift to family and friends.



Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - good, but not great..
It is a nice, solid but gentle yoga session with a helpful introduction at the beginning. Why didn't I like it that much? Well, I would have preferred more specific instructions DURING the actual practice, not before it - tips how to hold a specific pose ( how to position my knees, my hips etc. ), what to look for, what mistakes to avoid.. Maybe a quick reminder why a particular pose is good for me.. Without it, it was just another yoga DVD - not bad, but not as great as it could be.



Rating: 2 out of 5 stars - Some Problem Points
This video does cover great moves for hip flexibility and it's most helpful that Tursi has two other practitioners demonstrate various degrees of accomplishment, vs. just stating what a less flexible person than she could do to modify the move. As a Beginner, though, I found the following quite troublesome:

1. Tursi and her two helpers have on black yoga pants which don't contrast with the dark background, thus making it difficult to see their various leg positions.
2. The music is too close in volume to her voice level (vs. being a lower, background complement), so that when she does explain a position in detail, you have to really listen (or re-listen) to be clear on what part should be where.

So, just a warning to Beginners or maybe even Advanced Beginners (which this video says it's for), I think these are MAJOR issues to consider before purchasing.

The instruction on this dvd is remarkable, what I have been looking for to help me move through life long patterns of hip tightness, pelvic imbalances. next best thing to taking classes with a wonderful teacher. Not your typical yoga dvd, in a class of it's own. I will be working with this dvd for a long time.
