Editorial Review:

Product Description:
Remember your first time listening through headphones? The JVC HA-NC250 refreshes the entire experience. Noise-cancelling headphones reduce unwanted ambient sounds (i.e., acoustic noise) by means of active noise control. You get to hear more of what you want to listen. The JVC HA-NC250 is an extremely effective pair of noise-cancelling headphones, with up to 85% noise reduction with feedback technology, as well as memory foam cushion and extremely smooth ear-pad surface that isolate background noise effectively. Use the HANC250 as a pair of normal headphones when the noise-cancel mode is turned off. Turn down the noise and listen. It's like hearing for the first time. The headphone uses a 40mm neodymium driver in each earpiece. For comfort and portability, the JVC HA-NC250 is one of the lightest headphones in its class, weighing just 5.3 ounces. It folds flat, and when folded is slimmer than most competing models. Included with the HA-NC250 are a slim carrying case, a four-foot detachable cord, airline dual plug adapter, and -inch plug adapter for use with many home audio and video components. The headphones use a single 1.5-volt AAA battery for powering the noise cancellation circuitry. Battery life is rated at up to 50 hours (alkaline). Whether you're listening to your portable or your home sound system, the HA-NC250 are a natural match. Memory Foam cushion earpads. Also function as regular headphones

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Excellent Headphones
I was trying to decide between these and the Sony MDR-NC60 headphones and after trying both out, I decided to go with these. Both headphones were almost identical to me in sound quality and noise reduction. The JVC seemed to to have less static when the noise cancellation was on without music playing. The JVC are smaller, lighter, and on-ear as opposed to the slightly larger over-ear style of the Sony MDR-NC60s. I ended up keeping the JVCs over the Sonys because they were more compact and cheaper, yet had the same quality of sound and noise cancellation as the Sonys.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - JVC compared to Audio Technica
I owned the Audio Technica prior to these. I was satisfied with them too but gave as a gift to a relative. Audio Technica was superior in noise canceling, perhaps due to its around-the-ear design. But that also made it less comfortable for me as the ear cups were not sufficiently large for my ears, which are not by the way big by any standards. JVC noise canceling is _almost_ as good and it is much more comfortable to wear. I travel a lot on airplanes and the noise canceling works very well. The case is also smaller, which made it a better choice for my precious little bag space. If you are really short on space, you could potentially put these in a flexible nylon container and carry without the case. You could not do that with Audio Technica. Sound quality is as good as Audio Technica if not better. I did not face the sound issues with my laptop (Lenovo) some say they did. Overall I am very satisfied and I highly recommend these headphones.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Great noise canceling headphones - perfect for work or travel
I work in a sea of cubicles, so I have to hear other people and their conversations. These headphones have worked perfectly so far. All of the lower frequency noises are cancelled out, and the over the ear design blocks outside noise even with noise cancellation turned off. Now I don't have to blast my music or internet radio to block out the annoying conversations. You can still hear some higher frequency sounds outside, but you can't make out what people are saying, and it's hardly a nuisance.

I also tryed out these headphones while mowing the lawn and using the leaf blower. It won't block out all the noise, but it does a great job in blocking out 80-90% of the noise, especially lower frequencies.

In addition, the phones are comfortable and compact. My ears don't sweat, and they don't feel sore after hours of use.

I haven't used any competitor's headphones, and I've only had it a few weeks, so I can't speak of battery life. However, I am very pleased, and the cost didn't hit me heavy in the wallet.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Not so good...
I bought a pair of these to replace a $50 pair of Logitech noise canceling headphones. The Logitech did a wonderful job with sound and noise reduction, but they were cheaply made and fell apart. Overall though, I would have preferred another pair of the Logitech to this JVC stuff. Honestly, in the ear or over the ear is the way to go with noise canceling headphones, but these sit on your ear. Therefore there's no seal to assist in blocking out unwanted noise and your ears get sore after a short time. Additionally, the noise canceling on these was awful and created a noticeable hissing sound when active and you could hear your footsteps "amplified" when walking. Finally, battery replacement gives you the feeling you are about to destroy the headphones. What a poor design. I cannot understand why so many people give these headphones such good reviews unless they are only using them once or twice a year for short flights (or maybe because they are $200 cheaper than the Bose). I returned them!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Low Expectations...

I had low expectations when I purchased these. Most Products in this genre ranged at around 200 dollars. These were half the cost...thus I had half the expectations.

I was incredibly surprised how well they did. I had a cross pacific journey and I actually used them to cut down on the engine noise for a much more pleasant flight. I actually now use them quite extensively at my desktop whenever i'm doing work. They seem to make my music that much better by cancelling extemporaneous sound.

So to summarize, great quality at this price point.
