Rating:  - Predictable but Good
The two main female characters are entertaining although the overall storyline is... well, yawn. The supporting characters are okay although tiring. The DVD quality is a little disappointing, especially on a big HD-LCD, and our Season 2 Disk 8 DVD did not work for some reason.

The series is phenononal. I believe the best writing on TV so far in the new millenium. I bought this as a Gold Box. Started watching it..again...and it is still fresh, funny, and bright.
So the series is 5 plus stars for sure. But DVDs are another story. If you are going to shell out money, I think the 'contract' means you get extras. For a series with so much wit and conversation at its heart the lack of commentaries on espiodes is appaling and inexcusable. The Paladonios, director, and actors OWED it to people spending money to do commentaries. As far as I know they did not, although on some seasons there may be one or two.
Now to the case. I was prepared to hate it, but it is actually one of the best things about this set. Heavy vinyl much better constructed than what I believed. But the best part is the clever way of space-saving with the DVDs. They are all in very slim folders. This makes the overall size MUCH less than having 7 individual seasons. Veah the picture choices on the case could have been much better but you know, for the durability and size savings I can overlook that. The two books that are included are decent and fun.
So if you have not seen all the espidoes get this for sure. If you have? Well there are extras each season and taken together that is 7 years of extras. Rating: - Good dvd's, worst case ever
I like the series a lot but the case they came in was the stupidest case I've ever seen. I read the reviews that other people wrote about how it looked like a barbie doll case but I didn't understand exactly how badly they meant it. It actually looks like a box that a barbie might come in and it's the SIZE of a barbie box too! It's HUGE and has no place on the dvd rack where I keep my collection of other tv series.
Right out of the box I've had a couple dvd's that weren't really working well. When I put them in they were skipping and no sound coming from them. My husband took them out of the dvd player and cleaned them and then they worked fine.
My only complaint really is that through each episode you have to sit through (or fast forward) the opening song, "what happened previously on the Gilmore Girls" and then the end credits. It would be way nicer to watch the series straight through on dvd without having to watch what happened in the episode you JUST got done watching over again. It makes sense when it's showing on tv but not on dvd. So when watching, make sure you have your remote handy at all times so you can skip through half of the time.

This was a gift for my wife. Gilmore Girls is her favorite show and she is very pleased with this collection. I have found myself looking through the Gilmore-isms and Episode guide books. Great stuff!
It's nice having all those episodes at our disposal and it's the perfect gift for any fan of the show.
