Throughout Curb Your Enthusiasm's fifth season, HBO's master of passive-aggression went in search of his roots. In the sixth, Larry returns to his old tricks--to the relief of fans who felt the show was losing its way. As usual, most scenarios revolve around problems unique to neurotic millionaires. Larry's voice of reason, wife Cheryl (Cheryl Hines), continues to save him from himself (when she can). This time, the 10-episode arc turns to Roots when the Davids take in the Blacks, a family of African-American hurricane evacuees, including Loretta (Vivica A. Fox) and her brother, Leon (an uproariously profane J.B. Smoove). Naturally, 'L.D.' offends other groups along the way, like an Asian gentleman ('The Anonymous Donor'), a chemotherapy patient ('The Lefty Call'), a deaf woman ('The Rat Dog'), and tennis-player-turned-comedian John McEnroe, a group unto himself ('The Freak Book'). During the year, Larry also tangles with an X-rated dessert, an unsympathetic senator (Rep. Barbara Boxer as herself), an inebriated chauffeur (Toby Huss), the infinite superiority of Ted Danson, and the usual games of one-upmanship with Jeff Greene (Jeff Garlin), Richard Lewis (himself) and Marty Funkhouser (Bob 'Super Dave' Einstein, brother of director Albert Brooks).

Since Curb Your Enthusiasm takes its inspiration from David's real life, the big news arrives when Cheryl, a character based on environmental activist Laurie David, walks out on him. Then their friends pick sides. Thereafter, things really start to go downhill, resulting in some of Larry's funniest faux pas ever--until R&B vocalist John Legend steps in to save the day. Not literally, but his soulful singing sets the scene for the surprisingly sweet finale. Extra features include a live conversation between David and Susie Essman, a sixth year featurette ('On the Set'), and a gag reel. --Kathleen C. Fennessy

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - He's back!
After a pretty lame and unfunny season 5, I thought LD had lost it, but he is back on track with season 6. The season starts really strong with their adoption of the Blacks, a homeless family and goes on from there. Where season 6 was tacky, this is really biting and cutting-edge stuff once again from Larry David. Great.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Not Larry's best work
The comedy is more forced than in previous seasons; however, Larry David's mediocre efforts still bring more laughs than most situation comedies.
Buy it.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Australian View
Recently recieved in the mail from Amazon the sixth season of Curb. My family watched the ten episodes in about five days. This sixth season is about on the same level as all the other seasons. If you are a regular viewer of this show, you know what I mean. Larry gets himself into all sorts of trouble without any effort. If only he would just shut his mouth when he gets a little bit upset, if only he would walk away, if only he would think ahead just a little bit, - but then, we wouldn't perhaps cringe as much, or laugh as much.
Its, sometimes, a very uncomfortable show to watch, Larry seems to do everything possible to upset his family and friends, but other times you find you are on Larry's side, fighting with him, trying to right all the unusual stuff that happens to him.
As a aussie who loved this show from its beginnings, I have had to import the last couple of seasons because of the dreadful timeslot the program had, near midnight on sundays, if at all.
If you are a fan, dont mess around, buy this sixth season. After all, maybe there might not be a seventh.
And thanks to Amazon for the exellent service that I always receive with my orders.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - If you are warped and liked The Far Side, this is for you.
David explores the minefield that political correctness has planted for us. He is honest and likes to cut corners that seem reasonable at the time. Jeff's wife is the best. Since women's liberation, the out-of-control-flaming-bitch has slipped out of favor. David gets scorched like a marshmallow regularly.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The best season since Season 3
Although I have enjoyed every season of CYE, like most fans, I believed the series hit an apex with its Season 3 finale. Seasons 4 and 5 were good, but they lacked the originality and freshness of their predecessors. Well, with Season 6, CYE is back on track!

The introduction of new central characters so late in a series's life is typically evidence of "jumping the shark." But this is not the case with the introduction of an African-American family, the Blacks, whom Cheryl and Larry take in as hurricane refugees. Particularly, it is Leon (played by J.B. Smoove) who stands out. When he and Larry share screen time together, virtually every second is hilarious.

The real-life Larry David went through a divorce prior to Season 6, and thus, CYE offers a new take on Cheryl, who is largely based on real-life Larry's environmentalist wife, Laurie. Thus far, CYE-Larry has been seen as inconsiderate and bumbling in marital relations, but Cheryl's actions in Season 6 give a new perspective on all of his previous foibles. Ultimately, the season ends with a finale that rivals that of Season 3 -- and Susie Green is, for once, put in her place! I sincerely hope there is a seventh season, but if there isn't, CYE was certainly wrapped up with much more style and grace than Larry David's other show, Seinfeld.
