What better way to launch Family Guy's sixth season and commemorate Star Wars' 30th anniversary than with this double-length Very Special Episode, a full-scale, awesomely animated spoof that recasts George Lucas' saga with Family Guy's galaxy of characters: Chris (Seth Green) is Luke; Lois (Alex Borstein) is Princess Leia; Peter (Seth McFarlane) is Han Solo, but not, as expected, Jabba the Hut; Brian (Seth, again) is Chewbacca; Quagmire (and again, Seth) is C3PO; Cleveland is R2D2; Herbert, the creepy senior pedophile, is Obi-Wan (both voiced by Mike Henry); and, of course, Stewie (Seth, already) is Darth Vader ('My diapers have gone over to the dark side'). Poor Meg is reduced to a cameo as the hideous reptilian creature that haunts the garbage compactor. Blue Harvest is reverently faithful to A New Hope, while engaging in typical Family Guy pop-culture references (everything from those old Grey Poupon commercials to Doctor Who, Airplane, Dirty Dancing, and Deal or No Deal) and bizarre digressions (the iconic opening crawl detours into an appreciation of a 'way naked' Angelina Jolie in Gia). Along for the wild ride are Judd Nelson, who contributes a voice cameo as John Bender for a Breakfast Club gag, Rush Limbaugh railing against futuristic affirmative action on Tatooine talk radio, and Beverly D'Angelo and Chevy Chase as the vacationing Griswolds observing the rebellion from their orbiting station wagon. A Star Wars spoof in 2007 isn't exactly uncharted territory. As Chris Griffin notes in this episode's final moments, Robot Chicken brilliantly did it months earlier (and let us not forget Mel Brooks' Spaceballs from 1987; or, on second thought...). But the Force is strong with Family Guy, and who could resist the opportunity to hear the Muzak playing in a Death Star elevator? --Donald Liebenson

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Another great laugh-fest from the Family Guy gang
I grew up in the 70's, so of course like all boys at that time, I loved KISS and Star Wars. Now I'm in my mid 30's and love Family Guy. You have to be my age to 'get' a lot of the Family Guy humor. When I saw that Family Guy did a Star Wars special, I didn't even read the back of the package or look at the price. I just grabbed it and went to the register.

The Blue Harvest is very faithful to the original Episode IV of Star Wars. The characters are 'in character' with their Star Wars counterparts. For instance, who else but Stewie could play Darth Vader? Well maybe Joe if you went by the 'part man part machine' angle, but c'mon who is as evil as Stewie and wants to kill Leia, who of course is played by Lois. My daughter was a little disappointed that Meg (her favorite character) was a two second cameo, but other than that we all laughed until we were Blue Harvested in the face.

Brian is brilliant as Chewbacca, I wonder if maybe Meg could have played Leia since Cris played Luke as they are brother and sister, but then where would you fit Lois? And if you did that then Peter would have to be Darth Vader as he is the father of Luke and Leia. Now granted Peter could have done some hilarious things as Darth Vader, but I think Seth and the gang hashed all this out and I think their final product was very very funny, and that's all that matters isn't it?

I for one enjoyed the old pediphile as Obi-Wan. When the limp light-saber went erect I thought it was a great gag, ... Read More

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Robot Chicken did it better
i liked the episode, but having seen the robot chicken episode long before this one, robot chicken was definately funnier and more creative. sorry family guy, i still love you.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Ehhh...
I love Star Wars, and I love the old Family Guy episodes, and this does have some funny moments, but overall, eehehhhh....that is about all I can say about that.
Sure, buy it if you are a Star Wars or Family Guy collector, but really it is not all that funny. Some of the runs I liked very much (Like the "Big Red, Standing By" deal), but it was not as creative as I think it could have been. I like the first Family Guy DVD release much better actually and the Futurama DVD movie was an absolute blast. So if you really want to buy something funny, buy the Futurama DVD movie, this is kind of weak.
The special features and bonus stuff is kind of cool. I like the t-shirt a lot. I will give it that.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Genius
If you are a Star Wars fan, you'll enjoy this Family Guy parody. Side-splitting!
