![]() Rating: - A Wry Look at a Funeral Gone AwryThis is a very funny British movie, a fast-moving farce that includes a gay dwarf, a guy tripping on acid, the delivery of the wrong departed loved one, and a little too much unexpected viewing of a corpse. The actors do a superb job of conveying zaniness at an upper-crust country house funeral. The plot is based on human foibles and flaws, and there are no lessons to be learned or morals to be drawn. A son in the movie however does have an epiphany about his father and matures through the comic adversities. How can things go wrong at a small funeral ceremony? What if a blackmailer shows up with photographs, what if a clod puts acid in a bottle meant for Valium, what if an old, handicapped man has an urgent need to evacuate, and what if the man assisting him ends up with more on his hands than he bargained for, what if a nude man threatens suicide from a roof, and what if noises are thought to emanate from a coffin--twice? It's hard to pull off farce, but if the director has a good plot, sharp characterization, and actor-pros, it's a treat to watch. A hilarious flick with twists and turns and plenty of laughs. Nine Lives Too Many The Daemon in Our Dreams The Rice Queen Spy Clawed Back from the Dead Rating: - Best Thing Dead or Alive--Death at a Funeral is hands-down the drollest, funniest comedy I've seen in years. It has that wonderful British knack of downplaying instead of overworking the truly absurd plot. Plus I've never laughed so hard watching a naked man in all my life. Rating: - HystericalMy husband and I went to see this in the theaters and couldn't wait to get the DVD when it came out. This movie turns a normally sad event-- a funeral-- into a comedy that makes you laugh so hard your stomach hurts. We both had tears rolling down our cheeks. The whole movie is about one man's funeral and how his family handles the stresses that pop up during such a terrible event. One thing after another goes wrong... and it's hysterical! Rating: - Death at a FuneralYet another refreshing take on the ordinary things that life throws at us albeit it a 'little' outrageous. As usual the British take on comedy is A1, full of clever wit, innuendo, and black humour. My ribs were aching by the end! Rating: - Good Ol' Brit Dark ComedyDeath at a Funeral takes you on a dark grin of a path when what can go wrong, does. Between the writing and the actors, the plot line can leave you with a sweet after taste. I found myself laughing at every corner and thinking, "Oh no, seriously?" Done perfectly in british style without the hollywood glamour. I highly recommend this as well as many of my friends who asked if I had seen it yet, and stated, "You must see this film!"
