Multi-Destination Routing
This lets you enter several spots into the device (day care - supermarket-cleaners - office - day care, for example) and it will plot the fastest route. And once you've found the best router, the "Route Planning" feature lets you save up to 10 different routes, Garmin touts the feature for providing, "the most efficient route for errands, deliveries and sales calls." The feature also makes this an instant essential accessory for anyone who shops garage sales (you know what we're talking about). A trip log provides an electronic bread crumb trail of up to 10,000 points, so you can see where you've been on the map. Where Am I? Where's My Car? The nüvi 700 series is the first to answer two common questions: "Where am I?" and "Where’s my car?" At any time, with a single tap of the screen, drivers can display their exact latitude and longitude coordinates, the nearest address and intersection, and the closest hospitals, police stations and gas stations. And to help drivers find their car in an unfamiliar spot or vast parking lot, the nüvis in the 700 series automatically mark the position in which they were last removed from the mount. See Better, See More The super-bright, 4.3-inch (diagonal) touchscreen display gives is anti-glare for ease of viewing during the day and automatically changes its color profile for easy viewing at night or in dim light. It offers 2d or 3D perspective views. The widescreen format gives you 70% more actual screen area than a 3.5-inch screen. Primarily this translates into a better view of the area through which you are driving. This is especially useful in showing you what parks, restaurants, ATM, gas stations, etc. are nearby, or in letting you know whether a detour is a good idea. Also, the device itself is larger, meaning controls on the screen are more widely spaced and somewhat easier to push. First Rate Map Data The nüvi 780 is preloaded with highly detailed City Navigator NT road maps for the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico. This map database features nearly six million points of interest (POIs), including hotels, restaurants, gas stations, ATMs, and attractions. Garmin gets its map data from NAVTEQ, a world leader in premium-quality mapping. Hands-Free Calling In more and more places, it is becoming illegal to use cell phones while driving without a hands-free kit. The nüvi 780's Bluetooth capability, microphone and speaker lets match it to any bluetooth-capable phone to make hands-free mobile phone calls. Simply dial the phone number with the nüvi's touch screen keypad to make a call on a compatible phone. To answer an incoming call, just tap the screen and speak into the built-in microphone. Making and taking calls on the road has never been easier, or safer. In addition, Garmin makes it a breeze to look-up and dial numbers from your personalized phone book or even tap into your cell phone's call history log. Garmin Lock Garmin's patent pending theft prevention system that disables the unit from performing any functions until the user types in a specific 4-digit PIN or takes the unit to a predetermined secure location Easy To Use Interface Garmin's interface is a key to their success and one of the things that makes their devices such a pleasure to use. Simple controls and sub-screens make it easy to enter or search for destinations and get data about your trip.

The nüvi is designed to receive alerts about traffic tie-ups and road construction that might lie ahead on your route. All you have to do is simply touch the screen to view traffic details and you'll be ready to detour around any problem area. Average Rating:
![]() Rating: - some improvements, some setbacksThis is my third Garmin and overall I am pleased with their products. I purchased this model for the bluetooth feature and it is pretty good but this model has some features not as good as my old 330. There is no external volumne control and it is more complicated to save a current location than my old unit. The battery life is better than the old model and with the bluetooth feature it is a step up from the old unit but I much prefered the external volumne control and ease of storing locations. Rating: - not bad.. butthe only complaint I have so far is that i can't enter a zip code instead of a city name. I have found several times that the name of the place I am going is not the name on the GPS and if I could just enter the zip code I could save several steps. My old GPS had the option of entering the city name or the zipcode and this was very helpfull at times Rating: - Garmin nuvi 780This is the second GPS unit I have owned. After reading countless reviews on many products I selected this one since it was lower cost due to its out of production status, but had the features I wanted; text to speech, blue tooth for hands free phone, live traffic information, and a reputation for quick start-up finding all the satellites it needs to navigate. Garmin also has a good reputation. How does it work? Well, the start-up time is affected by how long ago the last time you used it and if your position has changed much since then. In general it is satisfactory on that score. At first, the text to speech was weak, but a downloaded update improved it to the point I am satisfied. I have not tried the live update feature yet as I am waiting for a long trip to test it. The sensitivity to the gps satellites is great. This unit works inside my house which helps when I am doing planning. I also like the MP3 storage [sandisk card]. I am able to load several hours of music to this device. That said the fm transmitter is poor in my car, a Honda minivan. I can use it if I plug a 3rd party device [Radio Shack] that works from the earphone jack on the Garmin that does the fm transmitter work. This will make it possible for the Garmin unit to interrupt my music playback with navigation instructions. My experience with Garmin tech support has been good so far. After you go through the phone maze and the waiting you get an American English speaking person who, in my experience is informed and patient. There is not much of that available these days. The only improvements I would want to see is: 1. Being able to organize "favorites" into folders and 2. Having computer software that allows you to plan trips and upload them to the unit. Rating: - Fabulous invention.OUTSTANDING. Why oh why did I not open the box and start using this device sooner?? I'm having vision trouble (temporary) and the GPS totally saved me today. It's intuitive, easy to use and I love it. I have a SC430 Lexus with a built-in GPS system and this Garmin GPS is so much easier to use.. Rating: - garmin 780 nuviit's great, had one of the first gps devices from 5 years ago this one is far superior, love it , ez to use, works great |
