Editorial Review:
Product Description: 'Conscience is a killer' is the catchphrase that made season 5 of The Shield the most intense season of the series to date. These 11 tightly scripted episodes comprise the first half of a 21-episode arc with series creator Shawn Ryan referring to the sixth season (broadcast in 2007) as 'Season 5.1.' This is The Shield at its finest culminating in a climactic 11th episode ('Postpartum') that ricochets the series toward a complex range of dramatic complications. Jumping the shark? Not a chance pal--not when you've got soon-to-be Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker in his outstanding guest-star role as Det. John Kavanaugh the upright tormented Internal Affairs cop determined to destroy Det. Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis) and his corrupt LAPD Strike Team. As Kavanaugh mounts an obsessive campaign to reveal Mackey's shameful secrets conscience is a killer in the Strike Team's midst: Ronnie (David Rees Snell) maintains a stoical voice of reason but as Mackey recruits (and seduces) a savvy lawyer (Laura Harring) to defend against Kavanaugh's harassment Curtis 'Lemonhead' Lemansky (Kenneth Johnson never better) desperately protects the Strike Team with a sacrificial gambit that provokes Shane (Walton Goggins) to commit a crime that's both shockingly tragic and dramatically ingenious since it forcefully propels The Shield toward a bold and unpredictable future.System Requirements:Running Time: 546 minutesFormat: DVD MOVIE Genre: TELEVISION/SERIES & SEQUELS UPC: 043396250307 Manufacturer No: 25030

Rating: - One of the greatest shows in television history
The fifth season of "The Shield" is on par with the previous four, which means instant greatness. Forest Whitaker brings some added acting muscle as the Internal Affairs agent out to get Vic and the rest of the Strike Team. This is essential viewing.
Rating: - Why No Widescreen?
This was an incredible season of a show that just gets better and better every year.
However please be warned that this is not in widescreen as specified. I have no idea why the US DVDs are continually released in P&S, so I recommend going to Amazon UK where these are released in full widescreen aspect ratio.
Rating: - Behind The Sheild
When I recieved this package, I was a little nervous as to how it would play on my machine. I have a region 2 machine and The Sheild 5th Season I bought is on region 1. Naturally, the DVD did NOT play on my machine (although some region 1 DVDs HAVE). Thus, I have been watching this series on computer screens!! Why we cannot get ALL the info from this package on the English version is a mystery to me. Why is one episode cut shorter on the English version than the American edition? Why are there not more complants put to the company responsible about this? There NEEDS to be a solid explanation! Needless to say, this is a fantastic show that keeps the rawness of the past episodes. The commentries and tributes are good too. It always seems to me that Vic cannot be on the straight and narrow, even if he tries to. Something from his previous form will always come back to haunt him.
Great show, but will the company involved STOP SHORT-CHANGING the fans in the UK. Give us ALL the information please.
Rating: - Excellent Series.
Damn fine television. Not appropriate for young ones obviously. They have done a great job painting in shades of grey for this entire series.
