Product Description: The HA-FX34 Marshmallow has been designed with wearer comfort as a top priority. Super-soft earpieces in two sizes are supplied as standard, providing a snug fit for a wide range of users. While the earpieces provide a perfect fit for the ears, the range of seven body and cord colors complements perfectly Apple?s third-generation iPod nano and iPod shuffle models. Furthermore, the gold-plated connection plug is fully compatible with Apple?s iPhone, making the HA-FX34 an ideal choice for music on the go.

I had these JVC Marshmallow canalphones for about a year and a half before I upgraded to the higher quality Head Direct RE2 IEMs. For $12 you cannot get a better canalphone. As long as you are sure to use them properly they will sound nice and be comfortable.
Make sure whenever you put them in your ears you sqush down the foam plug. don't just squish it in one direction either, roll it between your forefinger and your thumb, so as to make it smaller in all dimensions. Then place it firmly inside your ear canal and allow it to expand to fit.
these are not "flat" canalphones by any means, but they do convey a nice sound. The bass is there, but not overpowering, and the treble doesn't roll off like it does in other similarly priced headphones (Read: Skull Candy) They don't buzz or hiss at all. I do however, recommend a 10 hour or more burn in to let the drivers loosen up and open the sound. All driver based headphones need a burn in, though this tends to get overlooked in cheaper headphones becase they don't benefit as much. The burn in on these doesn't make or break the sound quality, it just adds a bit of warmth and character to the bud. They get 4/5 for sound only because I had to fiddle with my equalizer to make them sound a bit more flat. They do sound just fine on players with no equalizer or audio enhancement features (Read: Zune and iPod)
These also are quite durable, they lasted me though many hard hits and are now giving my friend great listening pleasure. They've been in use for over a year and have shown no signs of breaking. The cord is your typical headphone cord. thin, lightweight, not too long, not too short. The plug is a 0 degree straight plug that has become popular recently, which means you should wrap them loosely, not around an iPod or MP3 player, doing so will put more stress on the cord near the plug and it will eventually rip. The plug is your standard gold plated affair. The headphones themselves are hard plastic and have a nice curve on them, no hard edges to split on. The tunnel is plastic as well, and the driver dust cover on the end of the tube is, again, plastic. The pads are a foam with plastic covering so they don't degrade. If they do wear out you can look around for replacement tips here (I've heard some of the sure ones work well)
Overall fantastic headphones for the price range, comfortable, decent isolation, and they sound nice. 5/5 because of the ridiculously low price they're asking for them, I would put a price of $25 on these.

These earphones are very comfortable. The sound quality is not very rich. If you are listening to talk radio or a sports event, they should be great. If you are looking for better than average sound then these would not be a very good choice.

- my 3rd pair of marshmallows - they will last about 1 year under normal use
- there are some notable differences when compared to the older fx33 marshmallows: the cord on these is shorter by a few inches, the cushion insert is alittle smaller, and the diameter of the actual tube is smaller. basically the same pair of iem's, just a slightly smaller size
- i recommend spending the extra dollar on amazon and getting the older pair of the 33's, since they have larger cushions that allow for slightly better isolation.

Bought the JVC earbuds along with two other lower cost sets. These and the Koss KEB24 fit OK but have a shallow sound. The JBuds J2 earbuds deliver a richer sound. All 3 sets have a tendency to loosen up and fall out. I bought these to use in a noisy construction area and they do block enough outside sound to avoid hearing damage. If I turned these up enough to hear music over tool sounds, I could damage my hearing. JBuds J2 Premium Hi-FI Noise Isolating Earbuds (Black/Chrome Silver)

I'm not an audiophile by any means, but the sound quality of these ear buds is terrible. The highs are very distorted. I even gave these a 24-hour burn-in period are recommended by the manufacturer, and I still couldn't tolerate listening to music on them. The only positive is that they did a good job of blocking ambient sound.
