Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Perfect Radio
I have several radios one of which is a OLD radio shack 12-898 still works very well. I wanted a newer portable and after much research this has to be a "purrfect" radio. Its got large readout, excellent reception and easy to use. Sound quality is great looks great I just have to say this is a GREAT radio for taking from room to room, deck or garage. Whomever designed this had you and me in mind!!!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Very Satisfied and Happy
I too was tired of buying $30 "name brand" radios only to toss them in the trash out of sheer disappointment with their performance.
So I scoured Amazon for portable radios and was happy to find this radio.
What struck me instantly was the hundreds of 4 and 5 star reviews for this radio.
I read them all.... well almost all of them.
Based on these hundreds of 5 star reviews, I decided to give this radio a chance and have been very happy with it.

I can use this radio without the antenna raised and pull in great reception.
This is a great radio. Sangean has perfected AM-FM radio reception.
I get over 30 hours of play time using Duracell batteries.
I have this radio playing at work all day long and I work 6 days a week.
I have proudly shown off this radio to fellow co-workers.

If you are looking for a dependable, quality radio that does a great job of pulling in and holding onto your favorite stations, this is the radio for you.
It is worth every dollar of the $60 I paid for this item.

I cannot say enough for this radio....

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Love this radio!!
I've always used Sony's in the past, but they discontinued their radio that was similarly sized to the Sangean. Turns out I love the features of the Sangean, volume knob is large, and other controls user friendly. I get better sound and reception with this radio also. The rechargeable feature (not necessary to remove the batteries) is a definite plus. After receiving the radio, I ordered 2 more for family members.
PS I rarely give 5 stars, and am quick to criticize. Not this time.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Runs on NiMH rechargeables
I use a portable radio a lot, and I hate throwing away exhausted AA alkaline batteries. But most radios perform poorly on NiMH rechargeables because of the lower voltage and because old-style NiMH batteries self-discharge in a few days or a couple of weeks to the point that they need recharging again. This radio can use NiMH batteries with no loss of performance due to lower voltage. I recommend Sanyo Eneloops because they self-discharge much more slowly than ordinary NiMH batteries.

One word of caution though. You can recharge the batteries using the provided plug-in adapter, but because the recharge will be in series the batteries will not be recharged individually. This works OK for one or two recharges, but then the batteries tend to get unbalanced -- some will be higher voltage than others -- and performance will suffer. You will also observe a loss of energy capacity (the need for recharge will become increasingly more frequent). If you recharge the NiMH batteries in a good charger like a Maha or a La Cross, however, the cells will be charged individually and there will be no observed loss of capacity.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - style and function
Looking for a bathroom radio that was easy to look at and sounded good and didn't cost a fortune. Found it. Sounds good and it's nice to have around.
