I gave this five stars because I think it's the best transistor radio on the market. It has great sound at low volumes to fall asleep to and a defeatable 90-minute shutoff. The feather-touch controls can be locked with a switch. The reception is as good as you're going to find in a small radio, and this is smaller than the much less expensive competing models made by SONY and Panasonic. Is it worth the price? You decide.
There's a lot to like, but this is what I don't like:
(1) Cannot turn off the LED display when radio is turned off to save battery power.
(2) The LED displays the frequency of the station currently being played. Don't I already know that? I'd rather see the time displayed. If I want the time, I have to briefly turn the radio off and then back on.
(3) It doesn't like rechargeable 'AA' batteries I've tried. Anyone else had this problem?
All-in-all, I am very happy with this radio. Since this is a very pricey transistor radio, you may want to protect it. The 'Vidpro VHC-20 Shockproof Hard Digital Camera Case' (currently available from J&R through amazon.com) fits this radio very well. This case has mesh webbing against one interior wall where the floppy wire FM antenna can easily be stored, too.

This is my fourth Sangean radio. Sangean makes high quality radios with reception far better than what's available in stores. The DT-400W is no exception. I was looking for a all around solid radio with the weather band. And I am happy to report that I did indeed find one. This radio has it all! Small and compact to fit anywhere. I listen to mostly AM stations and it can pick up distant stations very well. FM sound is remarkably good for such a small unit due to the deep bass boost button. The NOAA weather band is also a great feature. Batteries seem to last forever and the radio also has 19 random preset buttons with a lock switch - very handy. Eventually, you will need a better set of ear buds but thats no big deal. Also the T.V. band feature is no longer of any use. But who really listens to the T.V anyway. I am Very Happy with this radio and I would highly recommend it! A Perfect 10!

I had a Sony Walkman for 20 years with unsurpassed quality of manufacture, ease of use, excellent reception and high sound quality.Unforunately an equivalent Sony replacement is not avalable at this time,and through an internet search and customer reviews I selected the Sangean dt-400w. Based on the product description and price of about $59.I expected to receive a similar quality replacement for my Sony.Instead I received a lightweight,tinny sounding radio that one would expect to buy in $10 to $15 range.Save your money.

The dt 400w excels in most areas of am,fm,&wx reception,the digital tuner really locks in stations with no problem!Great battery life,easy operation of all functions.It has a small speaker but really excels with a good set of earbuds.The ones that come with the radio are fare.Some folks don't like the fact that you have to plug the antenna wire or the included earbuds for fm stereo and the weather bands.My self I don't have a problem with it!For the size and compactness of it you won't find any thing comparable.Some might find the cost a little high,you just need to do a little research to find the best deal for you! By the way I'am using a set of J2 premium earbuds.Very reasonable price on Amazon.com. Hope you find this review helpful.
