| LEGO Star Wars Republic Gunship |
Drawing from the wealth of Star Wars lore, the Clone Wars are part of a back-story of intragalactic unrest that set the stage for the original trilogy. They are portrayed in a new animated movie, TV series, and video game, which help fill in gaps that appear between the other movies. With this set, you can be part of the action. Take up the battle against the Separatists using the Republic Attack Gunship, a heavily armed and armored Clone Wars troop carrier that's ready to invade even the most hostile terrain. Included Lego figures represent the well-known characters Obi-Wan Kenobi, Plo Koon, Asajj Ventress, and Commander Cody. Of course, there's Clone Trooper mini-figures as well. There's a cool speeder bike that deploys from the back, and multiple decals to create different gunships for your army. Arm your favorite figure with a lightsaber in Jedi blue-green or Sith red, and let the intragalactic battles begin. There's even a healing chamber that helps your characters recharge after a tough battle. Preparing Your Gunship for Battle With 1,034 pieces in 18 bags and two instruction booklets, the Republic Attack Gunship took our eight-year-old tester just under eight hours to build. He broke the construction up into three shorter sessions to make it more enjoyable and had only one slight difficulty. While Lego instructions are known for being colorful and accurate, there were a handful of pieces in our booklet that appeared clear when they were in fact yellow. This didn't do anything to diminish our appreciation for this model. Our tester struggled to find anything negative to say, and he gave this ship a fun factor score of one million, based on a scale of one to 10! Cockpits in unexpected locations on the wings, unique sliding doors, the zoomer buggy, and an emergency capsule for sick and injured characters ranked high on the list of cool features. That's not all though. There's also a front side compartment that opens so you can remove the command station, eight positionable flick-fire missiles on top, two rotating missiles in front, and a top compartment which opens to provide access to the spy droids. When asked if there was a downside to this gunship, our tester could only reply, 'It's the best ever! I just like the whole set.' Soon after completing construction, he had a big battle with all the ships in his collection and commented on how this set includes updated pieces that he's never seen before. Even though there's plenty of features on just the Republic Attack Gunship to hold a child's interest for a long time, we can imagine how much fun the set would be with a whole group of friends and siblings plus all their Star Wars ships. We also appreciate the way that Lego systems never limit imaginative play. All the cool hardware that makes up the Republic Attack Gunship can be used to build any structure or vehicle your child dreams up. What's in the Box 1,034 Lego pieces and two instruction booklets. ![]() Rating: - The best got BETTER!Some people have been saying that this set is not very durable, and falls apart esily. I don't want to be rude, but all the reviews saying this occured when the set belonged to a fairly young child. This set is very durable, and meant for MILD play. This is definately one of LEGO's best SW sets ever! Rating: - 9 Year old was thrilledThe lego was given as a birthday present and he loves lego and star wars.1,034 pieces and he has put the 5 figures together already. Rating: - What a disappointment...My son bought this with his birthday money (11 years old) and wishes he never did. It falls apart easily and isn't playable. It took him 3 days to build it and after only playing with it one time it's sitting in pieces on his bedroom floor. Unless you're looking to build this and use it as a display save your money and buy something else. Rating: - Heart breaker! This toy has been a heartache for my son. It was for his 12th birthday. It falls apart very easily and is not durable or playable at all. He is literally in tears over this. His best friend up the street has the same one and is very durable I am wondering if he has done something wrong maybe, but he has at least 20 different Lego star wars sets like this and the others all seem to hold up well. I think I will be contacting them. Rating: - Great hidden features but 3 major flawsI am actually a 28 year old Star Wars geek who animates LEGOs as a hobby (6th Grade Math teacher by day) who got this for his birthday from a very patient and understanding wife. I've been waiting 3 years for Lego to bring back the Gunship and it's back with mixed results. The construction method is genius. The cockpits, wings, doors, cargo bay, and nose section are each separate sections that snap together upon completion. The only problem came when the nose section snapped to the cargo bay section, the columns were not sturdy and fell apart twice before snapping together. Together, however, they were very sturdy. As a completed gunship, the set is very sturdy and built with finger grips so a child could easily hold it. The two weakenesses in the set design are that there are not enough knobs in the cargo bay to hold several clone figures and that the rear of the ship is wide open and not closed. The ramp is not anywhere near wide enough to protect the rear cargo bay. That can easily be fixed by adding some pieces of your own to it. My main complaint is that for a $119.99 set you only get 5 minifigures. Amazon's product description says 4 clones. You really only get 2, Cody and another. The point of the Gunship is to carry a platoon of troopers into battle. The set only comes with enough to pilot it. Hopefully, LEGO will release more $9.99 sets at the end of December that come with 4 troopers and a small vehicle so you can load your gunship. Browse for similar items by category: |
