Editorial Review:

Amazon.com:
As light and frothy as the Vivienne Westwood wedding gown that's an unofficial fifth star, the film version of Sex and the City is both captivatingly stylish and sweetly sentimental. Viewers who loved hanging with Carrie Bradshaw and her three pals during the series' TV run will feel as though no time has passed. Except that it has: Carrie and Big are poised to make a Big Commitment; Miranda and Steve are facing the breakup of their wonderful family; Charlotte and Harry have added to their brood; and Samantha (are we sitting down?) has been devoted to hunky Smith for five full years. Still, in all that time, the women's style, conviviality, and appetite for bons mots have only grown. When practical attorney Miranda learns that Carrie is considering moving in with Big (in possibly the coolest apartment in Manhattan), she can't help but frown in that but-you-might-lose-everything way. Carrie's retort: 'For once, can't you feel what I want you to feel--jealous?!'

The cast is spot-on, as always. Sarah Jessica Parker is effortless as the angst-ridden yet practical, stylish yet vulnerable Carrie. Kim Cattrall is deliciously decadent as Samantha, but she's wiser now and knows herself and her needs for a real relationship. Kristin Davis, as Charlotte, has quietly become the most gorgeous among the beauties, her sleek presence both winsome and sophisticated. And Cynthia Nixon (Miranda) shows nuance as a woman torn between betrayal and grudging hope. Supporting roles include Candice Bergen as the Vogue editor who anoints Carrie 'The Last Single Girl in New York,' and Jennifer Hudson, as a starry-eyed, ambitious romantic who represents the new generation of SATC women. Through it all, New York is a benevolent cocoon that envelopes and nurtures the women and their friendships and careers. No matter that none of them appears to have any semblance of 'real' family; as long as they have each other, and Manhattan, all will be right with their world. --A.T. Hurley

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Excellent but one flaw
I thought this movie had just about everything. It was like watching three episodes of the telivision show in one movie. Nothing was lacking here as from the original show. Wife was with me, and she had cried at least 5 times in the movie. It had some strong themes, love, friendship, forgivness. Excellent production.

The only flaw was that the Jennifer Hudson character seemed to not belong in this storyline. It was completely out of place since they were trying to create something not needed here. Hudson's character contributed nothing to the storyline since Miranda, Charlotte etc were her support system. I would have suggested they could have just found an obscure actress to play this role. It really felt like a corporate exec wanted her in this movie for no reason. The fact that she is also in the soundtrack makes it equally annyoing to me.

Apart from that, the movie is flawless.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - still fabulous
I couldn't decide whether to give *Sex and the City* 4 or 5 stars. What the heck, I'll give it 5 stars.

First of all, I loved it! It was wonderful to be back into the lives and adventures of these 4 fabulous gals. I loved the montage shown from the TV series, showing what these women have experienced, individually and collectively.

Carrie and Big are still together and are looking for an apartment suitable for them. However, a legal question comes up about property and rights. When Carrie and Big get together to talk about, their conversation eventually lead them to marriage.

The night before the wedding, someone says something to Big, which caused him to get cold feet on the wedding day. Humiliated, Carrie and the girls retreat to Mexico (Carrie and Big's honeymoon destination) to recuperate.

However, throughout the movie, I couldn't help but feel that Miranda and Samantha were really the focus of this film. Miranda considers divorce from Steve as he reveals that he has had an affair. Samantha isn't the same gal that we've grown to love from the TV series. Samantha has now been in a relationship with Jerry for 5 years. Meanwhile, men around her are just getting more gorgeous every day.

Meanwhile, Charlotte discovers she's pregnant but is fearful because she has had a miscarriage before. At the same time, she holds the biggest grudge against Big for the cancelled wedding. As luck would have it, she encounters Big and ends ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - BEST SEX EVER!!
This movie will move you in ways you never dreamed of. I always loved the series but the movie had me laughing and crying. It was like a rollercoster. I HIGHLY recommend watching this movie alone and with your girlfriends!! I have seen it three yes three times and I still can;t get enough! I will tell anyone that will listen go and get CARRIED AWAY today!!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - FANTASTIC!
I have been a fan of Sex and the City for years now, so of course, like many fans, I eagerly awaited the movie, and stayed hopeful, even when it looked like there wouldn't be a movie after all. So naturally when the long-awaited movie was finally released, I rushed to the movie theatre to see it opening weekend, and I wasn't disappointed! The movie was fantastic, even better than I thought it was going to be. It was quite long (nearly two and a half hours) but when it ended, I wished it could have gone on longer!

The movie stays true to the show, and shows you what Carrie Bradshaw, Charlotte York, Samantha Jones, and Miranda Hobbs have been up to since the show ended. At times the movie will make you laugh, and at other times it will make you teary eyed. And best of all: you get to see what happens with Carrie and Mr. Big!

so obviously I recommend that you see the movie if your a fan of the show, and I encourage you to see the movie even if you have never seen the show, as they give you a summary of all the important aspects of the characters lives at the beginning of the movie.

I definitely wouldn't mind seeing the movie atleast once more before it leaves the theatres, and of course I can't wait to own it on DVD, so I can place it on the shelf alongside my other Sex and the City DVDs.

One more thing: I am now praying that they make a sequel!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - TV formula slapped onto a movie script
Without a doubt Sex and the City is one of the most influential TV show in history. So like any other successful TV show, it is trying to translate its fabulousness onto the big screen. However, does it work?

One of the major differences between a weekly TV show and a movie is that on TV you allow your characters to grow gradually while exploring different things in their lives. However, in a movie, you don't have that kind of privilege. You only have around 3 hrs to tell everything. So to deal with this issue, Sex and the City put the fabulous four into a whole year of adventure in 2.5 hours. Does it work? Well it keeps the funny stuff and sometimes candid stuff on the show but on the whole you feel like watching a montage of events for the characters without actually being able to think that they are unfolding in a meaningful manner. Those are life changing events, but when they are being broken down into numerous pieces that weave a plot together in 2.5 hours, it lacks the tension it allows on the TV show. This, without doubt, taxed the performance of the leads - SJP, Kim Catrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon. When you watch them, you feel like they are busily putting things together to make their characters work once again. They are all familiar characters but the development was so fast tracked that you wonder how the thought process became so fast food like as compared to a meaningful growth in the TV show.?

Fashion is the big thing in the TV show, so we have lots of ... Read More
