Rating: - 5 star for what they did for star trek but 1 for the format wars.

im not wasting my money.
im hopeing for blue ray but who knows...
im just glad i did not get stuck with bata tapes like a lot of others did when that format war was going.
remember that bata vs vhs?
i was lucky and guess right.
but this time not sure so ill wait.
but it looks like blue ray just may get it.
i hope the format war is over soon.
Rating: - PLEASE BE SURE YOU KNOW WHAT YOU WANT!
THIS IS QUITE SIMPLY A WONDERFUL SET TO OWN IF YOU'RE REALLY A FAN OF TOS. IT HAS LOTS OF NEW EFFECTS WHICH BRING THIS SERIES TO THE LEVEL OF TNG/VOY/DS9 EPISODES WE'RE CURRENTLY ENJOYING.
GIVEN-THIS IS A 60'S SERIES, SO DON'T EXPECT MAJOR CHANGES! WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO CHANGE THE STORIES THEMSELVES? THEY ARE WHAT THEY ARE-THE BEGINNING.
THESE NEWEST DISCS ADD SOME BADLY NEEDED, RENEWED VISUAL EFFECTS AND ARE DIGITALLY REMASTERED TO LOOK A LOT CLEANER/BRIGHTER WITH VIVID COLORS AND REDUCED CONTRAST SHIFTS. THESE IMPROVEMENTS ALONE MAKE IT WORTH HAVING. THERE ARE ALSO MODEST SOUNDTRACK IMPROVEMENTS WHICH YOU'LL PROBABLY NOT EVEN NOTICE UNLESS YOU HAVE THEATRE SOUND EQUIPMENT.
PLEASE YOU GUYS... NO ONE IS MILKING ANYONE HERE! IF YOU DON'T WANT THESE IMPROVED SETS, THEN FOR GOD'S SAKE, SIMPLY DON'T BUY THEM! I'M SICK OF THE WHINING AND MOANING CRITICS WHO WANT THIS WHOLE SET TO BE HD-DVD ON ONE SIDE AND THE OTHER WITH STANDARD DVD.(LIKE SEASON ONE OF THESE) IT'S NOT HAPPENING FOLKS! I'M SORRY YOU BOUGHT THE HD-DVD PLAYER, BUT GROW UP AND GET OVER YOURSELF! IT'S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD! I'M SURE THE PEOPLE AT PARAMOUNT HAVE RECIEVED YOUR THREATS OF NEVER BUYING THIS OR THE BLU RAY EDITIONS AND ARE PROSTRATE WITH GRIEF OVER THE LOSS OF THE SINGULAR PURCHASE YOU MIGHT HAVE MADE. IF YOU CAN'T AFFORD THIS RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE EXPENDITURE-BUY A PACK OF GUM INSTEAD!
Rating: - Here we go again.
I bought the "restored" version that is shown in syndicated television with the combo HD-DVD/regular DVD First Season package. The first few episodes were outstanding, with an enhanced Enterprise and new special effects. But then they got lazy, and by the middle of the first season episodes, it looked like the deisgners got lazy and started doing fewer and fewer enhancements. So I won't be conned again.
Rating: - These nonsense releases are getting tiresome
It's ridiculous enough that Paramount continues to release obsolete versions of this beloved series on standard DVD...at an inflated price (compared to other series).
And its not surprisingly Paramount is going to rip off it's fan....again.
Now in its 4TH incarnation (1st: original 2 DVD per disc, 2nd: plastic cased red, green, blue edition, 3rd: HD-DVD set) Paramount could of done a couple of things that would have been sensible:
a. Release Season 2 and 3 in the HD/DVD combo format -- at a reasonable reduced cost --- so that those who bought season 1 can complete their collection.
b. ....while concurrently releasing them in Blu-Ray dvd the now defacto HD standard.
instead in a very shrewd manner, Paramount has chosen to release them yet again on STANDARD DVD format ONLY....at a above normal price.
Which means that the Blu-ray version won't be released until they get a chance to sell everyone this current THIRD standard DVD version....then afterwhich they will release the 4th version on Blu-ray at a cheaper price, so as to ensure that those who purcahsed the previous version feel ripped-off (again). This is how they reward loyal fans.
Solution: boycott buying this current incarnation (guaranteed to be obsolete) and wait for a release at a reasonable price of the Blu-ray set.
Let Paramount eat their own garbage.
Rating: - Good grief - I've been suckered in again!
Well, yes, I was one of the stupid consumers that bought an HD player for the sole purpose of playing the first season in Hi-Def. What adds insult to injury is I purchased the player from Amazon in anticipation. Since the player arrived before the release of the 1st season, I was slightly too early on my HD player purchase to qualify for the phaser remote promotion. Why didn't Amazon warm me???!!
Anyway, I'm stuck with an HD player (and yes I own a blu-ray too, I'm that stupid), and while the discs are beautiful, I was nervous when the announcement was made to scrap HD players. So, I am thankful they will be released, even if it is just in Standard def. Please, please - I hope they don't eventually put them on Blue-ray. A stupid consumer can only take so much!
