Product Description:
I thought that when I entered high school, my days of believing in aliens, time travelers and ESPers were going to be over. That is until she introduced herself. Claiming to be interested in only aliens, time travelers, and ESPers, Haruhi Suzumiya was the strangest girl I ve met in a long time. Before I knew what s going on, I ve been dragged into her weird club, and it looks like I m not the only one who has been drafted into this SOS Brigade of hers, because there are three other students who don t seem to be so ordinary themselves. Either way we ve all found ourselves caught up in Haruhi s quest to search for all things extraordinary. And what s this I hear about us making a movie?

Amazon.com:
Based on a series of best-selling novels by Nagaru Tanigawa, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (2006) overflows with zany energy. Despite the title, Haruhi Suzumiya is anything but melancholy: she's a bossy, outspoken high school girl who's searching for 'aliens, time travelers, and espers.' To aid her search, Haruhi founds a new club, The SOS Brigade. Although she doesn't realize it, Haruhi has actually found what she's looking for in her recruits: Yuki is an alien; Mikuru, a time traveler; Itsuki, an esper. Kyon, the put-upon narrator,is normal--at least superficially.Itsuki warns Kyon that the existence of the universe may depend on Haruhi's whims. When she gets upset, dark gaps open between dimensions, haunted by shinji (ghostly giants) whom Itsuki and other espers must destroy. Kyon wonders if he's having nightmares or protecting the world from destruction, but this storyline recedes as the series progresses. Like Dokkoida and Magical Shopping ArcadeAbenobashi, Melancholy spoofs the clichés of anime and otaku culture. When the president of the computer club challenges the SOS Brigade to a duel playing 'Day of Sagittarius 3,' the episode turns into an outrageous spoof of sci-fi anime, with Haruhi shouting commands from the bridge of an imaginary space ship. But the series stops, rather than ends, with the story unresolved as Haruhi and Kyon walk off into the rain. Given the popularity of Melancholy in Japan and the US, a sequel may be in the works. Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - fun and funnier
A fun, exciting, and highly entertaining show. Kind of like a sci-fi version of Azumanga Daioh, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya will keep you laughing the whole way through.

A strange girl creates a club of even stranger people who do their best to keep her entertained so as not to let the world be destroyed. No real plot ever surfaces and we follow the characters through their daily shenanigans.

I would have given this a 5 but Kyon really got on my nerves since the entire series he gushes over Mikuru. It just made his character seem dense and very shallow. Every other comment was about how wonderful/perfect Mikuru was, which was incredibly annoying considering her character was pretty bland and nothing special and served no purpose other than fan service.

Besides that, anyone picking this up won't be disappointed. Girls will like it, but it's more of a guy show. Just sit back and get ready to laugh!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzamiya
The "Melancholy of Haruhi Suzamiya" is one of the best new anime out there. It's funny, witty, exciting and wildly crazy. It grabs your attention like hardly anything else and holds it. I'm not exaggerating when I say that this anime changed my life. Now I keep asking myself, "Have I squeezed every moment I can out the the day? What would Haruhi have done?" "The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzamiya," buy it.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great SciFi Slice of Life - 4.5 Stars
The series - The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya - is totally random, bizzare and not like any other story I've seen in anime. It's this awesome blend of SciFi and slice of life high school - and honestly if you don't like either one of those genres I'd stay far away from this show because going to keep you watching. Haruhi is obnoxious and hilarious, so it's good that most of the other characters, while interesting, are a bit more bland. You're not overwhelmed with insanity despite how whacky their plots can get. There is somewhat of an arch, but you can watch the episodes in a variety of orders and most everything will still make sense.

The set itself is nice but I don't think I have high expectations. Really all I want is a complete collection in a sturdy box that won't take up too much of my shelf space - this box set fits that bill. There really aren't any neat inserts that I can recall and the DVD extras are somewhat repetitive from DVD to DVD, but might be entertaining for a hardcore fan.

Overall, I do recommend this set - I was satisfied with the subtitle translations and I thought the dub was done fairly well... I am happy to have added it to my collection.

OBEY HARUHI

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - AMAZING!!!!
This is by far the GREATEST anime I have ever watched. The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi is short, confusing, and extraordinarily well-made. There is a reason why there are so many great things done to parody it: everthing is so great people want to copy it. The American Voice actors were well-chosen for the most part. The only voice that seems off for the character is Haruhi's actor, but that part is exremely tough to get someone for, I'm sure. Japanese subs are the best way to watch this, but watch it any way you can!
