Why is the sports cap made of plastic and not stainless steel? Your teeth. Klean Kanteen chose polypropylene #5 because it has no known leaching characteristics and is softer if you hit a bump on the trail. If you'd rather avoid plastic altogether, a stainless steel screw-on lid is available as an accessory. Can I put hot liquids in my Klean Kanteen? No. Klean Kanteen bottles are single walled and not for use with hot liquids. Warm beverages can be used at personal comfort level. The single-walled construction allows for more volume and the option to put your Kanteen on a flame. Can I put my Kanteen in the freezer? We do not recommend it and it will void the one-year warranty against manufacturer defects. Can I put my Kanteen on a stove? In a pinch, the Kanteen can be placed on fire or a stove. Beware not to melt the plastic lid or burn yourself. What is stainless steel? Stainless steel is an iron-containing alloy made from some of the basic elements found on earth: iron ore, chromium, silicon, nickel, carbon, nitrogen, and manganese. Properties of the final alloy are tailored by varying amounts of these elements. There are more than 57 stainless steels recognized as standard alloys on the market. Klean Kanteens are constructed from high quality sanitary grade 304 stainless steel which has a low nickel content. Stainless steel has excellent resistance to stain or rust due to its chromium content making it a material of choice among the food processing, dairy and brewery industries.  Rating:  - Attractive, simple, safePros: no hazardous chemicals in construction; slim design fits easily in car cupholders; sport cap protector is detachable Cons: Odd capacity (0.8 L); no instructions on using sport cap mechanism; no protective-insulating sleeve available Not much to say about an unlined stainless-steel tube that holds liquids. It does its job, and that's all it can do. The sport-loop top needs to come with this instruction: do not suck at the nipple. All the people complaining about the chirping sound the sport top makes *have* to be sucking on the nipple to produce this sound. Just let gravity do it's work; you'll get enough water, and you won't annoy those nearby. The company needs to market a neoprene sleeve for its bottles, just like Sigg does. This will both protect the bottle from dents and maintain the temperature of the contents. And call me priggish, but the capacities of this line of bottles is just weird; it doesn't make sense in either English or Metric. Either go with sensible fractions and multiples of cups or liters. The best thing about these (besides being stainless steel) is that the top is wide enough to drop in ice. Not all water bottles are, which I found out by first wasting my money on a different brand. Rating: - Very Good Alternative to Untrustworthy SiggI got rid of all my Sigg bottles after their lying about their toxic liners came out. Ordered this Klean Kanteen bottle and am generally very happy with it. It is light-weight, the loop cap is easy to take in and out, and it fits into the cup holder of my car. The only problem is that the opening is bigger than I had expected (I thought it would be the same size as my old Sigg bottles) which means it is almost impossible to take a swig out of it while driving without being splashed by water. Rating: - Great for kidsI bought this one for my son. I have noticed that he is drinking a lot more water. The water stays cold for quite a while. I was concerned it might have a metallic taste but it does not at all. Would highly recommend. Rating: - Excellent water bottle!This is a fantastic water bottle. You can put just about anything in it and the container will not absorb any funky flavors or odors. It's safe to wash in the dishwasher and it's held up pretty well after a couple of accidental drops, too.
