Product Description:

Amazon.com:
The Most Dangerous Game is a classic, one of the first talkies to get pictures moving after five very static years following the birth of sound. The plot finds resourceful hero Joel McCrea and heroine Fay Wray being hunted on the island of the insane Zaroff (Leslie Banks). One of the grandfathers of the summer blockbuster, the film's setup has been reworked many times since, notably in John Woo's Hard Target (1993). By modern standards it's technically primitive, though still gripping stuff, complete with the jungle set built as a test run for King Kong (1933) and graced by Max Steiner's prototype of all Hollywood action scores. --Gary S. The Kindle version of this book is a disaster. The text sometimes ends mid-sentence, then the next page starts in the middle of another sentence...WHERE DID THE MISSING TEXT GO??
rip-off...

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - Nice movie, acting so-so
Quite a few years I watched "The most dangerous game" on tv. As I remembered it, I liked the movie a lot. So when I found out about this DVD-release I decided to buy it.

On the DVD are the original b/w version and a colorized version. Why, I ask, because which movie fan wants to watch a b/w movie that is colorized? I started watching the colorized version, just to see how it was done, but after several minutes I decided to switch to the original b/w. The colors are too artificial.

The movie's got a good story, but except for Joel McCrea, the acting is not very strong. Fay Wray only seems to be able to scream in this movie.

Perhaps not the best movie ever made, but I guess it is a movie that fans of classic movies should watch at least once.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Fun, though loose, interpretation of a classic story
The movie is loosely based on the short story "The Most Dangerous Game," by Richard Connell. The movie does not follow the story perfectly; they've added characters and an unnecessary romantic plotline, but it is close enough to show the theme of the story, that man is our own worst enemy.

The acting is a bit forced, and it is easy to tell that this was filmed on a soundstage, not on location, but that just adds to the charm of this being an old movie. I enjoyed it, and my students seemed to like the break from overdone special effects.

Fun movie. Thoroughly enjoyable in its own way.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Solid adaptation
The Bottom Line:

A short and enjoyable adaptation of the classic short story (though, per Hollywood convention, it adds a love story), The Most Dangerous Game stars the capable Joel McCrea as a shipwrecked man who ends up as the human prey of Count Zaroff, a twisted hunter who has long since discovered that man is the most dangerous game to hunt (hence the title); the production values are decent and it zips merrily along, making this a fine film to rent.

3/4

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Is anyone interested in a little game of.....
Eat the bear before the bear eats you? If so you've come to the right place. This is a taut little thriller in which man hunts man. I think it's a classic too as it shows that some people out there are predators. They thrive on the hunt to kill someone. A modern word for that would probably be sociopath. I didn't hear of this movie until I saw it on Turner Classic Movies, and so I figured why not tape it? Joel Mcrea plays the hero Bob whose shipwrecked on an island with a woman played by Fay Wray, and they seek refuge in a old mansion type house owned by a recluse named of Count Zardof. Just make sure he donesn't show you his trophy room....if you want to live. Some people will think of this as another game of cat and mouse, but I feel this is one of the dangerous movies that they showed in the early 1930's. Along with "M", "Night Nurse", and "Reefer Madness". What makes it so dangerous is the fact that there are some men/women out there that will kill each other for the thrill of it. Not to be seen by those under 13.
