Once you've got this lens hood on, the stock Canon lens cap won't fit back on. I put it this lens hood on once, then took it off after the lens cap started falling off. Also shipped with a ridiculous amount of packaging waste (huge box filled with air-filled bags and then the product's box inside, finally the lens hood, in yet more plastic...come on, it's just a lens hood!)

This prodcut is great! It fits over the filter too! Its rubber, so you're able to push in the hood for storage. I love it and have it on my 50mm lens 24/7!

This is a great little lens hood to go with it's lens, after reading reviews on the canon hood for the 50mm 1.8, I decided to go with this, as most reviews on it were poor. This hood from adorama works just as it's supposed too. Threads directly onto the front of the lens. The lens cap can be put on over top of the hood, however it doesn't sit as tightly as a lens cap would without the hood on, but it does anchor in fairly well. As I can't judge canon's hood for the lens (since I don't own it) I recommend that you buy this hood.
*As a side note, this can't be reversed on the lens for storage like canon's...but it's also $8 cheaper and a few flicks of the wrist to take it off to put the lens back in my bag isn't a big deal. But even with the hood on the entire length of the lens+hood is only about 4 inches.

After reading reviews for both the Canon and Adorama brand, I quickly decided to go with Adorama. This is the first time I have bought an off brand version (I bought 3 Canon lenses, a shutter release and extension cord for the fore mentioned). I am willing to pay the extra to get the quality stamp of Canon and to support them as a business. BUT Canon's version of this hood is WAY to complex compared the Adorama's version. The hood screwed on. Simple. It easily screws in and doesn't pop off.
The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5: On my Canon hood (for 28-135mm lens) it has a felt like material lining the inside. My Adorama one does not. This would help to absorb the light, rather than create a glare on bare plastic and bounce off into the lens. When dealing with a short hood, I would think they would go the extra mile to prevent light entering the lens... since that is the point. Overall though, I am satisfied!

Of course it works just fine but it does not reverse on the lens for storage as do canon hoods. But, beings it's such a small lens it's not that big of a deal but when your camera bag is jammed with gear every inch counts.
