Editorial Review:
Album Description: Down To Earth is the 2008 album by Jem. Since her 2004's acclaimed Finally Woken, Jem has spanned the globe. Born in Wales, she resides in LA. On Down to Earth Jem shared production and writing duties with cohorts both old and new, Jeff Bass, one of the two brothers credited with discovering Eminem, and Lester Mendez (Shakira, Santana, and Nelly Furtado). On three other selections, she joined forces with Mike Bradford (bass with Kid Rock) and counts Uncle Kracker and Deep Purple among his production credits. The album reflects the singer/songwriters far-ranging influences including Brazilian percussion on the title track, a hip shaking track complete with funky banjos on 'Crazy' and the tempestuous Latin-flavored track 'I Want You To'.

Rating: - Just ok
I adored the first CD, waited in anticipation and was very disappointed when I got this one. Listened to it a couple of times hoping it would grow on me. It didn't, songs are very disco-like, disappointing...
Rating: - Good Sophomore Effort
Jem's first album, Finally Woken, was excellent, but it took a long time for this follow-on to come out. It's a good album with a little wider variety of songs than her first one. "It's Amazing", the Sex and the City song, is the best one here, but aside from the awful "Aciiid!", all the others are good ones. If you liked Finally Woken or It's Amazing and are wondering whether to take the plunge on this album, it's definitely worth it.
Rating: - Not as Good as Finally Woken
I am a huge fan of Jem's first album, Finally Woken, and purchased this one on the authority of the reviewers who said it was as good or better. Having listened to it a few times, I'm afraid I have to disagree. By far the best track on the CD is the title track, "Down to Earth". But even that one isn't as good as "24" from Finally Woken. "Aciiid!" is an almost-successful foray into the hip-hop genre, but ultimately lacks the edginess that makes for decent hip-hop. Most of the songs here unfortunately are lacking in musical variation, and the lyrics are simplistic at best. Don't get me wrong: I still liked the album. But it wasn't what I was hoping for.
Rating: - Different
After many weeks of listening to this CD, I would say that I would recommend it to other Jem fans, however, it has a very different sound when compared to her older CD. So if you were completely hooked on how she sounded on the old CD then you will be disappointed otherwise it's a great buy.
Rating: - Jem does it again!
I discovered Jem through a friend of mine. Her first album helped me get through a pretty rough period in my life. This album has done the same. For the most part her sound is the same as it was on Finally Woken (1st album).
I love her voice, very relaxed and soothing. I like to listen to this while I'm doing yoga or out riding my bike. Would definately recommend this album to anyone.
