![]() Rating: - It does the job, but there are better optionsWithout getting into a lot of technical details, Photo Album 7 from Corel is a bit bloated and not so easy to use. They try, but it's just not Corel's niche. Frankly, there are freeware programs that are as good, or better. Rating: - The Claims Are MisleadingThis product bills itself as a "complete Digital Photo Suite". It is far from complete. You can't crop free-form, and you can't copy and paste parts of photos onto other photos. The online backup storage service is just a link to a company that will SELL you space to back up your photos. In fact, it links you to a company that has already gone out of business, and suggests that you give more money to someone else who may or may not go out of business. You can store photos online for free. In fact, you can do all of the things that this software will do, for free. Rating: - Not a comprehensive photo editing tool -- but very useful for a few specific tasks.I wish I had fully understood what this product was before I bought it. The first time I used it, I was completely underwhelmed - I love Corel products, but had no idea why they would put together a package with fewer options than their other (much older) photo suites. Then I gave it a second try, and started tinkering with some photos. I discovered that there are a few features here - reducing red eye, evening out skin tones, reducing or removing glare or glistening/sweaty skin reflections - that are so much faster in this program. My wife is an artist, and she initially laughed at the rudimentary nature of this program. But over the past few weeks, both of us have opened photos or images into this program to use some of the 1-click features to remove a quick blemish, then go back to Photoshop for other editing. I will mention that the "add a sun tan" feature is ridiculous - it makes the skin about 15 shades darker. Also, I think the templates and background images are terribly cheesy, but I can see that other people may like them. The slide-show feature is also something I personally would never use, but may be a nice feature for a novice. I agree with the other reviewers - this is definitely NOT intended to be a comprehensive photo editing tool. But even so, it has two or three features here are useful for photo editors at just about any level. I probably wouldn't have ordered it if I had fully understood its features, but now that I have it, I'll probably keep it and continue using it occasionally. Mainly, however, I think this is perfect for computer novices like my parents or grandparents, who want simple 1-click editing to remove red eye or minor blemishes. It's a very user-friendly program. At just $20, I can see that this would save my grandfather HOURS of wasted time trying to edit photos using other programs. So I give it 4-stars. Rating: - A BIG Disappointment! Don't Waste Your Money Here.I am a long time user of Photo Album, since back when it was developed by Jasc, before Corel bought it out. Like another reviewer I am also amazed how many people have given this product good ratings. Maybe they have not used the previous version Photo Album 6, which was very user friendly and had many neat features that were eliminated in version 7. For instance, batch commands like renaming all photos within a folder were dropped. And I was absolutely shocked to see that I could no longer reorganize the order of photos within a folder. Go ahead and try to drag and drop an image to a new location. I mainly used Corel Photo Album to organize photos so I could create travel DVDs of my trips. But now I can no longer organize photos chronologically, or by country. For me, this program is a total waste. I'd go back an order Photo Album 6 again, except it won't run with Vista. I'll get software from another company. Recommend that you do the same! Rating: - maybe OK for very basic usersI was looking for a program mainly to organize over 10,000 photos and from what I saw I did like photo album. I was also told by Corel support before I bought it that it was compatible with RAW which is important to me since that's the format I shoot in. It turns out that that was only partially true: you can view photos shot in RAW but you cannot tag RAW images so for me it's worthless for photo organizing - if it could tag RAW images I would give it 4-5 stars |
