Product Description: An ailing starlet is sent to a remote island to recover and little does she know that she is about to stumble into...a Hive of Horror! A diabolical neighbor has discovered the smell of fear and is using it to control a lethal swarm! Rating: - ENTERTAINING HORROR MYSTERY FROM THE 60'S! GLAD TO SEE THIS ON DVD!
Here's an obscure film that has finally made it's way to DVD. One of the better Killer Bee movies and it's wrapped in a nice little mystery to boot! The Bee effects run hot and cold, but still deliver that creepy crawly feeling. I remember this film from Saturday's afternoon horror fest when I was a wee lad! The film holds up and is as entertaining as I remembered it to be. The DVD transfer look very good, but the titles etc seemed a little fuzzy, nothing too distracting though. It would have been nice to have some extras, even a trailer! Too bad, but it makes a fun Halloween flick!
Rating: - Another winner from Amicus. . .
THE DEADLY BEES is one of the gems from Britain's Amicus Films, which tried for ten years to rival Hammer for the filmgoer's Horror dollar. This 1967 production stars Guy Doleman ("The Avengers" TV series, ON THE BEACH, THUNDERBALL, THE IPCRESS FILE), Suzanna Leigh (THE LOST CONTINENT, PARADISE HAWAIIAN STYLE, SON OF DRACULA) and Frank Finlay (THE THREE and FOUR MUSKETEERS, TV's "Prime Suspect", INSPECTOR CLOUSEAU), along with lotsa bees. Lotsa lotsa bees.
Now, bees are pretty docile by nature, but some awful, horrible, and just downright nasty rotter has bred bees which KILL! Ooooh, yuck!
Is it Guy, who is rather rough of personality, or is it Frank, who is soft-spoken and shy? To find out, it's up to Suzanna, whose character is a Pop singer from London who is exhausted to the point of very badly needing a holiday far from the city.
The production is impeccable, the sets are very atmospheric, and the acting is, of course, top notch and taken very seriously. The script by the legendary Robert Bloch from H. F. Heard's novel "A Taste for Honey" is sharp and wastes no time getting to the meat of the story. The late Freddie Francis' direction is as good as any of his Hammer work, and his keen cinematographer's eye (although John Wilcox is credited, Freddie worked very closely with him. And, of course, Freddie himself won two Cinematography Oscars, one for SONS AND LOVERS and the other for GLORY) finds just the right corners of the screen to place the important ... Read More
Rating: - Best Buy DOES have this for 16.99, RECALLS ALL BS
Best Buy DOES have this for 16.99, RECALLS ALL BS, especially on When Dinos Ruled Earth. you can also get this directly from Legend films even if its not listed as a direct buy from them. This movie is camp at it's best. I liked The Swarm much better, but this is still a great movie. If you live in the tristate area, you might remember seeing this on channel 7's 4:30 movie right before the 6 O'Clock Eyewitness News with Roger Grimsby and Bill Beutel
