This is a Warner Bros type phenomenon in a sense that they always seem to have these digipack releases, in this case Amadeus. Doesn't come in the usual blu ray plastic case, Another version will be released soon without these included items, this version includes a hardcover book with the first cover having the blu ray as soon as you open it , in the middle you have 36 pages of words and pictures about the movie and the end cover of the book has a 'special cd compilation' with 8 tracks on it done by Sir Neville Marriner, Academy of St. Martin-in-the-fields. The price isn't too bad either. Get it now before it gets deleted!

I don't get the point of making a fictionalised version of a real person's story. Either tell the real story or present the work as pure fiction. Why overwrite Mozart's life story with your own?
Mozart was a genius. In this movie, he was portrayed as a buffoon. It was irritating, served no purpose and detracted from the story. The story itself is only very loosely based on history. If you like fiction, this would be fine for you, but if you want to learn about Mozart, I would recommend reading the book Loving Mozart: A Past Life Memory of the Composer's Final Years.
I give this movie a 1, at least for the nice music and opera.

Great sets and costumes don't redeem almost three hours of enduring a muddled screenplay and poor, often over-the-top, acting by the protagonist and others. A promising beginning deteriorated steadily to a point where I was ready to bail out but somehow stuck with it.
I decided to try this after getting into Mozart the last couple of years. I thought at the least the score would be good. But instead of his concertos, symphonies, and serenades, we get his unfamiliar (to me) operas.
A perfect example of Hollywood rewarding the lushness of the production despite a tiresome (and historically inaccurate) story line.

Excellent movie and fantastic interpretation of Amadeus Mozart's life. The character is alive and real - although the dialogue is in today's English, it makes it more compelling. There is some poetic license in the movie, but the story is a good biography set in the early 1800's.
A priest rides into Salzberg to hear an old man's confession to a priest of his jealousy of Mozart (Tom Hulce) and anger toward God that he did not inherit Mozart's talent. The old man is Antonio Saleri and his narration gives the story of Mozart's life. He starts with how Mozart's father takes him to royal courts and makes him perform like a "little monkey". Antonio Saleri was a famous musician in Vienna and part of the King's court. He feels overshadowed by Mozart - a young, spoiled, raucous upstart, that can compose heavenly music - that only God could have given him this amazing talent..
We see and hear Mozart's masterful works performed, as well as his new and innovative ways of presenting opera and symphonies.
Mozart attends a party with his father and wife - and ends up mocking Saleri's music in good fun. Saleri is behind a mask (masks were popular at the time) and is insulted. The genius of Mozart is framed as Saleri is more and more tormented that only he would understand the gift - and revere thankfully worship God with dignity. He is so angry he burns a crucifix.
Mozart's life is short, debt-ridden, but burns bright. He has immortality in his music. Saleri knows he will never be remembered as great as Mozart, and as a weak, embittered man continues plotting to be more famous. He fails in the end, Saleri is forgettable, Mozart is the brilliant unforgettable creator.
