A still boyish-looking Kirk Cameron (Growing Pains) stars as Caleb Holt, a mercurial-tempered firefighter whose marriage is on the rocks. He clearly enjoys his status as a hero, but it comes at the expense of his marriage. His wife Catherine (Erin Bethea) is tired of the distance and wants him to make more of an effort at home, rather than surf porn on the Internet and hoard his earnings toward his dream fishing boat instead of helping out her disabled mother. Faced with impending divorce, Caleb's dad challenges him to follow the "40-day love dare," in which each task (cook her dinner, say nothing negative, etc.) is meant for him to better understand love and commitment and try and win his wife back. The third film by brothers Alex and Stephen Kendrick, Fireproof is the siblings' most polished feature. Cameron does a fine job of making Caleb real and believable, even when we're not always liking him. Though saddled at times with maudlin lines, Cameron adds emotion and range to his role. There is a not so subtle theme that the Holts--who at the beginning of the film are agnostic--needed religion to save their marriage. Clearly, Fireproof believes in its agenda and was made with the Christian audience in mind. Whether secular audiences will fall under its spell as well is debatable. But no one should walk away from the film offended. --Jae-Ha Kim Stills from Fireproof (click for larger image) Customer Reviews Average Rating: Rating: - Fireproof for this world and the next Fireproof may not be exacting, resplendent, or noteworthy by Hollywood standards, but the story is compelling and the actors seem real. A firefighter, as the lead character, is very symbolic for he pulls people to safety while his marriage desperately needs rescue. The story unfolds when he discovers the biblical solutions to bringing consideration, patience, and passion back to his marriage. The is Christian and dominantly bible-based. I really enjoyed this flick and recommend it to all those who are married and those who desire to marry some day. Rating: - Fireproof Great!!!! it could save many marriages if all would do the love dare. This is a must see for all married couples and it would be great while engaged to be married Rating: - Every Christian Needs To See This Movie Although this movie is about one persons marriage relationship, it is an excellent movie about relationships in general. As a Christian, we should be endeavoring to give more than receive in relationships with other people, but all too often the opposite is the case. I'm not very good at commentary on the actual movie so I will leave that to others. I just wanted to say that I highly recommend this movie, not just for married Christians but for all people that want to see first hand the power of true love in a relationship. Rating: - Terrible acting - great message The acting was atrocious, yet the message is wonderful. Focus on the good in your partner and focus on showing your appreciation for him/her. Despite the bad acting, I still found myself crying at times. Rating: - review of fireproof A sad but true fact about divorce is once the process is over, most people say that if they had known earlier how painful the whole process would be they would've tried harder to save their marriage in the first place. The movie fireproof is a riveting love movie that'll make you cry. One couple's marriage is going downhill it's the story about the journey of saving a couples marriage and becoming close again with your significant other. I would definitely recommend this movie to any girl that loves romance and a good cry. And maybe even a couple that has been having marriage problems. It may even inspire them to work things out. It definitely grabbed my attention on how painful divorce can be and makes me never want to have to deal with that. This is a great movie because it has a great lesion and makes you realize how important someone is to you. see more
