Popcorn. Entertainment. That's an exact classification of director Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Think of Transformers 1 on crack. In other words, this sequel took all of the extreme elements that made fans love the first movie and increased them exponentially. The action is nonstop, with battles and explosions from start to finish. The camera (without any subtlety) exploits Megan Fox's hotness to the max. As if she weren't enough, a new sex kitten (Isabel Lucas) is thrown into the equation. Shia LaBeouf is as charismatic as ever, and fills the starring role with ease. And then there's the humor. Sam's parents (Kevin Dunn and Julie White)provided some semi-raunchy laugh-out-loud moments in the first movie, but now they take it to the next level. Sometimes it seems like they are trying a little too hard, but it is still hilarious. As far as the “plot” goes, the writers didn't waste much time--it's really just a context for the giant-robot death matches and dramatic slow-mo sequences. The movie kicks off two years later where the Autobots have formed an alliance with the U.S. government, creating an elite team led by Major Lennox (Josh Duhamel), in an effort to snuff out any remaining Decepticons that show up. The bad guys keep coming, and it turns out that a much more menacing force than Megatron is out there--and it is looking for something on Earth that is tied to the very origin of the Transformers race. Fans of the franchise will be delighted by the addition of many new robot characters (there are well over 40 in the sequel, versus only 13 in the first). The second Transformers has shaped up to be one of the worst reviewed and most successful movies of all time. This strange pairing is really just an indication that this movie has one purpose: to entertain. Michael Bay can make some great explosions. He has trouble creating a meaningful plot. Rent this movie, skip the scenes with racial stereotype bots, and watch the fight scenes in the beginning and in the end of the film. You will have just barely gotten your money's worth. Rating: - Just OK and Not nearly as good as the first So, I am one of the few people who grew up watching the Transformers cartoons in the 80's and actually liked the first live-action movie in this series. I bought this sequel without seeing it at the theater despite all the criticism I'd read. Well, I have to say that they made some very poor decisions in the writing department. Whereas with the first movie it was fairly safe to have our young son watch this movie is riddled with out-of-place, awkward and unnecessary expletives that seem like they were added to the script just for the sake of having them. I am not a prude in any sense but even I was put off by the very awkward inclusion of expletives. On top of that are the stereotypical and racially insensitive new Autobot twins. Even still Optimus Prime says things that seem very out of character. Overall, the movie is OK with nice special effects and a few new characters but the movie is not anywhere near on par with the first film in the story or dialogue departments. Unfortunately, this is not a movie I see myself watching repeatedly as I did with the first film. I would highly recommend this movie for those who like science fiction action moview. Rating: - too many bad humor and bad story The main story isn't that good, the Decepticons now have perfect infiltrators and a satellite, no way the Autobots could do anything but they still win in the end. The Egyptian like Decepticon has nice design but he doesn't scare anybody. And this weak humor : Sam's mother smoking weed, the dumb autobot brothers, the big Decepticon having bollocks ... really make it feel like a comedy rather than an action movie but it doesn't succeed at any. It's barely saved by insane SFX and great cinematography. The Blu-ray image is awesome, making the action sequences really impressive and Megan Fox and Isabel Lucas are out of this world. Sound is detailed and well balanced in the 5+1. Rating: - Transformers II Interesting movie, but the first one is way better. Effects in both are kind of cool but the first one did a better job making it believable. The second on was for the most part hokie. IMHO I would not buy this one if you are thinking it is going to be like the first movie. see more
