Editorial Review:
Product Description: Righty-o, good chap. It's safari time and the only shirt you'll need is the Ex Officio Men's Trip'r Long-Sleeve Shirt. The UPF 30 Dryflylite material protects from harmful UV rays while it resists wrinkles and evaporates moisture quickly. Ex Officio built the Trip'r Shirt with tabs to secure rolled up sleeves and added back yoke ventilation to help move air through it, cooling you down. If the lions get you, they won't get your frequent flyer credit card, because it will be safely hidden in the zip security pocket.
Product Features- Material: 80% Nylon, 20% polyester
- Pockets: 2 Front

I actually just started buying Ex Officio clothes back in Jan of 2009. I had heard of them, I just had never purchased anything from them. I am one of those people who stick with particular brands that I really like and don't try new companies very often. Last year I went out to visit some of my friends in Oregon and it was during that trip that I was really introduced to Ex Officio as my friends are big fans of Ex Officio and their closets were stocked full of Ex Officio clothes. My friends are experienced hikers/travelers so when they recommend something I take that recommendation very seriously especially when it comes to jackets and clothing. Anyways fast forward 9 months and my closet is now chock full of Ex Officio clothes. One of my favorite shirts is definitely the Trip'r, both the long sleeve and short sleeve versions.
The Trip'r is made with Ex Officio's 2.5 oz Dryflylite fabric which consists of 80% Nylon and 20% Polyester. 2.5 oz is an extremely light fabric which makes it perfect for warm/hot weather. The light weight also makes drying extremely fast. I actually tested this during the summer. I ran one of these shirts under my faucet until it was soaked and then hung it out to dry on my clothes line. It was dry in less than a hour. On top of that its wrinkle resistant, has a 30+ UPF sun protection rating and has discreet mesh ventilation along the back yoke which really helps circulate air and wick moisture away from the body. The Trip'r also has a zip pocket which, in my opinion, is vastly superior to button pockets. Zip pockets are simply more secure than button pockets, besides, I actually prefer the look of zippered pockets on this type of clothing. They even have indestructible buttons!
All of those things make the Trip'r a fantastic shirt however what really makes this shirt one of my favorites is its appearance. Its just super classy and super clean. It reminds me of Mountain Hardware's Canyon shirts in this regard and that is a very good thing as the Canyon shirt is my single favorite outdoors/travel shirt. Like Mountain Hardware's Canyon shirt, the Trip'r can be worn just about anywhere, even in places that require a higher dress code. In fact the Trip'r can easily be mistaken for a dress shirt. Its only upon closer inspection that its technical nature become apparent. So whether your hiking, camping, traveling or just going out for a night on the town, the Trip'r will not disappoint.
Last but not least is the color selection. Colors are definitely one of Ex Officio's strong points. They have outstanding color palettes for their clothing lines and the Trip'r is no exception. Jade, Pebble, Bone, Trail, Dark Fern, Lapis and Deep Lake are all outstanding colors. Pebble and Bone are definitely my favorites. Even the white looks fantastic especially with a pair of blue jeans.
I was very fortunate to pick up a bunch of long sleeve and short sleeve Trip'r shirts during Ex Officio's summer clearance as it happened to coincide with Bing's back to school 2x cash back promotion which gave you 30% cash back on top of Ex Officio's sale prices. It was basically equivalent to getting 60% off. Then low and behold 2 weeks later Amazon has a clearance sale and lists the short sleeve version for 16.75, a whopping 75% off the MSRP. I just couldn't resist either sale and now my closet is chock full of both long sleeve and short sleeve Trip'r shirts. Trust me, that is a very good thing especially when your willing to pay full price.
The bottom line - Whether you buy a Trip'r at full price or get one on sale, you wont regret the purchase. The Trip'r is easily one of the best technical button downs on the market and the fact that it is so good looking is just a huge bonus.
5 stars!!
