Amazon.com:
An amusing blend of cop show action and dysfunctional family fireworks, the comedy-drama In Plain Sight benefits greatly from the charisma of its lead, Mary McCormack, as well as some promising episodes in this first-season set. TV and film vet McCormack (The West Wing, Murder One) finally gets a lead as Mary Shannon, a U.S. Marshal working in the Albuquerque office of the Witness Protection Program. The array of offbeat characters that fall under Mary’s jurisdiction--everyone from innocent witnesses of terrible crimes to less scrupulous types like Dave Foley’s obnoxious mob squealer (“Trojan Horst”) to a diamond smuggler (Missi Pyle) with wedding fever (“Never the Bride”)--present less problems for her than her family, which includes her overly dramatic mom (Lesley Ann Warren) and troublemaking sister (Nichole Hiltz), who has designs on Mary's on-again-off-again boyfriend (Cristian de la Fuente). Frederick Weller (as her quirky partner) and Paul Ben-Victor as her boss offer solid support, but In Plain Sight is McCormack’s showcase, and she shines in both the comic moments and more serious elements, most notably a confessional monologue in “High Priced Spread.” One wishes the scripts lived up to the performances--too often, the program coasts on glib dialogue, or worse, heavy-handed voice-overs--but these are fixable problems in the face of considerable potential. All 12 episodes of the first season are included in the three-disc set, as well as brief deleted scenes from each episode. --Paul Gaita

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - In Plain Sight
Human nature at its best and worst. Real characters bumping up against some strange. The 'who done it' story lines keep me guessing and involved in the series. I appreciated the shows more when I viewed them in series.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Another Classic USA show, kind of reminds me of ``Burn Notice''
I bought this DVD set after watching the first season on DVD from Netflix, and loved it. Another classic USA Network show following their tagline ``Characters welcome.'' And U.S. Marshal Mary Shannon is definitely a character, keeping her life as a U.S. Marshal in the Witness Protection program a secret from her would-be Latino baseball player boyfriend and her completely dysfunctional family.

Mary is definitely a very complicated character, much more so than that of spy Michael Westen on the USA show ``Burn Notice''...but the storytelling technique is very similar to ``Burn Notice'' where Michael will offer voice-over commentary at the beginning and end of the episode as well as while things are going. The same thing is done by actress Mary McCormack playing Mary Shannon during each ``In Plain Sight'' episode, which makes everything seem just a bit more human when you can clearly hear the frustration in her voice at things that go on in her job, her interaction with her boyfriend, which she claims he's not, and with her family.

Fred Weller is also pretty funny as her partner, Marshall, yes...a U.S. Marshal named Marshall.

I would highly recommend this set to anyone who likes a well-told story with some action, but moreover good acting and good writing.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Love the show...hate the price for what you get.
I absolutely love this show...Fred Weller and Mary McCormack are superb as tough, smart WITSEC agents. Their teasing, snarky, yet caring repartee is a hoot to watch in every show. What I didn't like about this DVD offering is the incredibly expensive cost for what you get. $40 for only 12 measely episodes?! And that's made even worse by the fact that there are no extras on these DVDs! Sorry, but I don't count "deleted scenes" as fun extras to watch...it's just crap that fell to the cutting room floor. They could have at least included some of the stuff on the IPS website...some out takes...some cast interviews, etc. Take a look at the NCIS season 6 DVDs...they're LESS money and they have 25(!) episodes, PLUS cast commentaries on some eps, PLUS cast discussions, etc. You get much more for your money. IPS DVDs are a major rip off...they really know how to gouge their fans...shame on you USA!

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - The toughest broad on TV--love her
Mary is Juno grown up. Sympathy wrapped in practicality. Her family is dysfunctionsl and she has to somehow perform her incredibly difficult and time consuming job and save her sister and mother from themselves. Her lover is hot. Christian was previously one of the more successful Dancers with the stars.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Great Show, Great Season, No extras on DVD.
The DVD set is what you'd expect - the full 1st season of In Plain Sight. So, 5 stars for that.

If you are expecting special features, though, don't. It would have been better if they didn't pretend to have deleted scenes on it, since it was just boring retakes of the exact same scenes that are in the shows, with only one real exception. No other extras are included.

I gave the set 4 stars because I guess we've all come to expect extras on our DVD's. I probably wouldn't have noticed the lack of extras if they hadn't gotten my hopes up with the deleted scenes option on the menu.

But, buy and enjoy anyway! Such a great show and I'd forgotten how good the first season was - and had forgotten some important storyline content, too. The first few shows, like most series, have some awkward stuff in there that would never have made it onscreen once the show and its characters were established.
