![]() Rating: - Well rounded product featuresI have been using many different types of Anti-virus and Anti-spyware products for many years. The Norton 360 ranks amongst the top for the following reasons : - Stability. I seldom have any installation issues installing this software on my PCs with different OS (XP and Vista) and hardware configurations - Speed. Virus scanning is relatively fast as compared to other products - Automated scheduled scanning for tuning up your PC. The feature which I did not enjoy was the backup function. The functionality and performance are not as good as Acronis True image Rating: - Norton 360I needed security software and have used Norton before. It keeps the unwanted software out. Rating: - No problemsI like Norton 360 3.0. It is user friendly, it's easy to adjust preferences, and its performance can be as simple or as complicated to deal with as the individual user's comfort zone requires. Big-time tweekers may feel a tiny bit constrained though; however, it has all the tools the average user needs to keep one's computer safe: a firewall with user-adjustable settings or auto-pilot; anti-virus, anti-malware, anti-spyware, and anti-phishing software; website filters; ID protection; child safe options; network monitoring; custom PC tuneups; and file back-up (which is the only thing I find about useless and totally frustrating. I back up my own stuff regularly, so I have this turned off). Another plus is that this is a 3-license product for one low price - exactly what I need for my desktop, laptop, and netbook. AND - to this point it renews for 3 licenses at the same price - not like other software that sucks you in with a one-time 3-license deal then hits you hard for individual licenses at each renewal. Maybe it's not the hottest or "sexiest" firewall/AV/internet security software on the market, but in it's various versions, Norton has kept all my computers trojan, worm, spyware, malware, and virus free for 2 years. I'm now starting on the third year with this purchase. It runs simply and fairly invisibly in the background. I've got it set to do all its updating, scanning, and tune-up stuff at night in sequence with my other favorite product's updates and scans, Trojan Hunter. It plays very nice with both Trojan Guard and System Guard, which run concurrently with Norton around the clock. This is a VERY rare performance statement for any firewall/AV/Internet Security software. Also, I do not find that Norton 360 is a huge resource hog. One of the options I find very helpful is when a scan is running and you choose to minimize it, you have the option to prioritize the use of resources for that one scan - whether to continue at full force and speed or to relegate the scan to the background, which lowers its priority and subsequent use of resources. I personally find no system slow-down on either XP or Vista either way, and I update and scan using all it's tools everyday. I can't say the same for some of the so-called giants and big dogs of the industry. I have been using commercial firewall/AV software since the 1990's, and I am no goober computer novice off the streets. I can tweek and tune with the best of them. I started with the original Zone Alarm and on to Pro and up through the Kaspersky takeover. I've also used PC-cillin, Trend Micro, McAffe, Black Ice, Spyware Doctor, AdAware, AVG, and numerous other free/paid brands. All these were either huge resource hogs that either caused big-time computer slowdowns, consistently crashed my systems, or let in trojans, viruses, worms, malware, or spyware. None of the above has occurred with Norton, which surprises me totally. I had always considered it junk. So, if you need reliable, inexpensive, easy-to-use internet security software that still gives you enough freedom to tweek some settings, then get this product. You won't be sorry. If you prefer expensive, intricate, hands-on resource hogs that probably provide protection beyond what the average home user needs, choose Kaspersky 2010. It's fully compatible with Windows 7 (so they claim), whereas I don't know if Norton 360 is or not. But be prepared for a more expensive price, a huge system drain, and a complicated interface. I'll stick with Norton for now. Rating: - So far no virusesI know nothing about viruses other than I somehow know how to get them :( After installing Norton 360, I'm worry free... Rating: - Norton 360 3.0: Faster and More Intense...Carrie Fisher, yes, THE Princess Leia of Star Wars fame, was once quoted as saying that George Lucas' direction of her and the rest of his actors in the first Star Wars movie mainly consisted of him repeatedly using the phrase "That's good... now do it again, but faster and more intense..." This is how I would describe my experience so far with the latest version of Norton 360. No, not particularly inspired is this new edition... there are few major changes. However, what it does it does well, faster than the previous version, and leaves the user with less work to do to keep their PCs safe. Keep shopping fellow shoppers; the price options for renewing Norton online are ridiculously expensive, when you can just keep buying more affordable retail versions (Thank you Amazon.com!) for the new key code. Yeah yeah May the Force Be With You.... |
