![]() Rating: - Samsung N110 Netbook ComputerThe GOOD: inexpensive, very portable, free cloth protective 'slip cover' case, large bright screen with good resolution, useful keyboard, great connectivity, surprising speed, (3)X USB2 ports and custom Samsung-tweaked XP operating system, solid construction. Runs everything I have thrown at it except newer PC Games. The NAG: VGA Out only - No composite Video Out for my portable movie projector, Samsung's apparent lack of customized accessories for this device like matching wireless mouse, external HD, or external Optical Drives. BOTTOM LINE: Well worth the $344.00 and I rate it at 8.8/10. Rating: - Great PC Almost My Desktop ReplacementI received this netbook as a gift last Christmas. I was a little skeptical about netbooks (I was really looking for an iTouch), but my wife did all the correct research and made a fine selection. I have a Sony Vaio and a MacBook networked with a wireless DSL from Verizon. I was able to configure and connect immediately. The keyboard size and touch is important on these netbooks and I am glad that my wife saw this feature as a priority. I have had zero issues and via file sharing pretty much use this as my main at home netsurfer PC. I purchased the matching Samsung external DVD drive for uploading other programs. I have not been able to tell any difference in the processor speed between this and my other PC/Mac. This netbook runs cool and the 10 inch screen does not seen as small as I thought it might. The portability is great making this a fine solution between my big Dell notebook PC from my work and the tiny iTouch I thought I wanted. I was able to use my Blackberry as a modem to reach near broadband connections. I have not yet seen the need to expand the RAM. The current processor speed is fine for movies and watching Lost episodes in bed off the net. I don't like touchpads, so I use my wireless mouse. If you want a big monitor, get a monitor cable and attach to your big HD TV (way cool). This is a fine PC. The red metal flake in the cover is a nice touch and the rubber foot pads seem oversized give a good countertop stability. Rating: - Been repaired twice so farI bought this back in June. In August I started noticing the one of the speakers was only working intermittently and crackling. Shortly thereafter the hard drive crashed. I sent it in for repairs but they only fixed the hard drive. So I had to send it back once again and this time they had to replace the motherboard and speaker assembly. At least they paid for me to ship it to them again since they didn't fix it the first time. From the time you ship it off until it's returned is about 2 weeks. Rating: - QUALITY CONTROL SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUECute looking but usable? I set it up and tried connecting to the internet wirelessly. It wouldn't do it. I called my DSL provider and spent more than two hours on the phone doing every conceivable test. I learned that the unit could connect via a cable but could not do so on its own. I then wasted another 1 1/2 hours with Samsung's customer service. Their only solution, finally, was to send the unit in for repair. I wasted a great deal of very precious time. I don't want to waste more time So I've decided to return the unit to [...] for a refund. Given the price, it should have worked out of the box. That it didn't says a lot about Samsung's quality control. Even though Consumer Reports recommends Samsung's products, beware: you may end up with a defective unit. Rating: - It serves my needsThis Samsung netbook is very portable. The only problem I have with product is the battery life. IT SUCKS!! I'm just glad I use this netbook alot at home where I can plug it in when the battery decides to die. I have never owed a labtop of any kind so I don't know if this goes for all labtop/notebook/netbooks. |
