Catherine Hicks plays the child's mother, and Chris Sarandon a detective; neither of them knows what to make of the kid's story. Monster-doll stories are always wonderfully surreal, and Child's Play is no exception. A child's toy possessed with the soul of a serial killer attempts to transmigrate his soul into the young boy's body, while leaving a trail of bodies in his wake. Chucky may have become the butt of all jokes in the 20 years since the release of the original film, but there is no denying that CHILD'S PLAY broke amazing new ground in special FX and the killer doll theme. It is unfortunate that Brad Dourif will always be remembered for this role, since he only has a limited screen presence, however his characterization as the notorious Chucky is as memorable as it is forceful and frightening. With more fun performances by Chris Sarandon, Catherine Hicks, and Alex Vincent, the film takes a cheesy B-movie plot and steps it up to an iconic late-80s Slasher. Though the body count is low, and there really isn't much blood, the incredible movement and design makes Chucky completely convincing. The marriage of costumed little people acting on enlarged sets with the animatronic doll is pretty seamless, and blows away any of the computerized FX used in the later films. Mancini's critical look at consumer culture reads heavily in the film, but is not so forceful as to take away from its entertainment. It goes without saying that this is a staple Horror classic!

A great movie of straggler (Charles Lee Ray) who attempts escape by magically transporting his soul into a popular doll and is great movie that goes well with Child's Play 2

Young Andy Barclay sees a commercial for a 'Good Guy' doll on TV, and asks his mother for one for his birthday. At work, Andy's mom and her friend discover a peddler selling one for a low price, and she buys it. What she doesn't know is that the particular doll contains the spirit of Charles Lee Ray, aka 'The Lakeshore Strangler', who died at the hands of police the night before and had transferred his spirit to the doll by voodoo. That night, Andy's babysitter is pushed from their 5th-floor window to her death, and only young Andy knows that 'Chucky' the doll is responsible for that a death and a series of murders that follow. Worse than that, the soul of Charles Lee Ray is trying to get out of the doll's body and take over Andy's. The movie builds up suspense in the beginning and then takes off once "Chucky" comes to life. It almost takes half the movie for that to happen. It stays intense from that point and certainly keeps your attention. This is a truly interesting horror movie.

On September 9th, 2008, MGM & Fox Home Entertainment finally released the much anticipated special edition of the 1988 horror movie, Child's Play. This edition boasted an all-new transfer with bright vibrant eye-poping colors. It's presented in it's original 1.85:1 aspect ratio. The previous version on DVD was 4x3 full-screen, so this is a much improved transfer. The audio has also been remastered with a newly remixed 5.1 soundtrack. This edition also features brand new bonus materials. The first is 2 newly recorded commentary tracks. The first is from Catherine Hicks, Kevin Yagher & Alex Vincent. The second features David Kirschner & Don Mancini. In my opinion the second track is the better of the two. David & Don have great chemistry together, this track gives alot of behind the scenes information. It also features various featurettes on the films production. MGM & Fox have put together a wonderful package for fans of this horror classic. Highly recommended!!!

I'm not even going to try to think I could even add any new information on my review of 'Child's Play' that hasn't already been said by others. As a matter of fact, I'm sure there's a review that starts out just like mine haha. I just want to show my appreciation for 'Child's Play' by adding my two cents into the mix. As a kid, this movie fascinated me more than it scared me. Growing up, I loved watching this flick! I remember scaring my best friend, at that time, with a 'My Buddy' doll while he was spending the night at my house haha. Good stuff! I still love to watch this every now and then. In my opinion, I think it's a shame what the series has turned into. I've only enjoyed 1+3 and that's it, sad to say. The first one will always be the best! Part 2 is fun and part 3, although not as good as 2, still brings a smile to my face! Brad Dourif is the best!
